Crying Out Hallelujah!

▪Rev 19:1 After these things I heard as it were a great voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, Hallelujah; Salvation, and glory, and power, belong to our God:

We often sing the song Hallelujah Praise Jehovah but I wonder if we really

understand what hallelujah really means?▪Hallelujah = to God be praise; praise ye the

LORD

▪So when we sing Hallelujah Praise Jehovah we are really saying “praise, praise the Lord!”

▪The word “Hallelujah” is only found 4 times in all the Bible and yet it is found in a great number of our songs, but why? Why is this word such a part of our Christain vocabulary?

Page 4: Crying out hallelujah

Hallelujah is a transliteration, iteration!

▪It’s etymology is found in Ps. 104:35 Let the sinners <chatta'> be consumed <tamam> out of the earth, <'erets> and let the wicked <rasha`> be no more. Bless <barak> thou the LORD, <Y@hovah> O my soul. <nephesh> Praise <halal> ye the LORD. <Yahh>

▪Halal + yaw = Praise Jehovah/Yahweh/LORD

▪ Found 23 times between Ps. 104:35 & 150:6▸The last 5 Psalms both begin & end with it!

▸Only in Ps. 135:3 is it writen as two words!

Truly God is worthy of praise!

▪Even though the Hebrew combination is found 23 times, the word “Hallelujah/Alleluia” is only found 4 times in our English translations all within one changer and only 6 verses!

▪Tonight I would like for us to study together what I would like to call “The Four Hallelujahs of Revelation 19!”

I. The Hallelujah of Redemption!“After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a

great multitude in heaven, crying out, Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God!”

▪Truly there is “only” salvation in Jesus!▸Acts 4:10-12 cf. Jn. 14:6

▪We cry hallelujah for the redemption that is only found in Jesus!▸1 Pet. 1:18-20 cf. Rev. 1:5

▪We give God glory & praise for the wonderful salvation He has given us!

II. The Hallelujah of Retribution!“For His judgments are true and just; for He has judged

the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality and has avenged on her the blood of His servnts. Once more they cried out, Hallelujah! The

smoke from her goes up forever and ever”▪Sin will not go unpunished! This can be seen

both as a blessing & a curse!

▪We can be sure that God is always victorious in the end!▸1 Jn. 4:4 cf. Heb. 13:5-6

▸If we turn from sin and seek Him blessings await if not then condemnation! (Mk. 16:16, Heb. 5:9)

III. The Hallelujah of Realization!

“And the 24 elders and the 4 living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne,

saying, Amen. Hallelujah! And from the throne came a voice saying, praise our God all you His servants, you

who fear Him, both small and great!”

▪Another name you might give this one is “the hallelujah of recognition!”

▪There is only one that is worthy to be worshiped and that is God alone!

Page 9: Crying out hallelujah

God alone is worthy to be worshiped!

Lk. 4:8 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall

worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.'"

▪Creation is not worthy!▸Rom. 1:25

▪Men are not worthy!▸Acts 10:25-26 & 14:11-15

▪Angels are not worthy!▸Col. 2:18; Rev. 19:10 & 22:8-9

Page 10: Crying out hallelujah

IV. The Hallelujah of Reign!“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the

sound of mighty peals thunder, crying out, Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns!”

▪Christ is “now” on the throne!▸Act. 2:32-36; Heb. 1:13; Rev. 3:21

▪We are “now” reigning with Him!▸Col. 1:13,14; 1 Thess. 2:12; Rev. 1:9 & 5:10

▪This is why we have reason to cry Hallelujah!

▪If you are a child of God tonight then you are now a priest and king!

Page 11: Crying out hallelujah

Conclusion:

▪Truly God is worthy of our praise! From heart to head, from head to heart!

▪It is my hope and prayer that we will leave here tonight better understanding “why” we sing Hallelijah!

▪Have you come to sing Hallelijah in your life? Have you come to know the redemption that is only found in Jesus? If not then will you come to know it even tonight?

▪If you are a Christian, then I hope you realize why we can sing Hallelujah!
