Good Bye Old Friends

We lost some good friends from our club this winter.

Mark and his wife Joanne have moved to warmer, and

often colder, climate. They call Prineville home now.

Look ‘em up when you’re in the area.

We lost Bruce Silket, our Carousel Cruise DJ this winter

also. Bruce passed away in December.

And

Congratulations

are in order for Niccole Miller and

Paul Geck, they were married in

February!

Salem Roadster Show

Vicki and I got calls from Greg Roach to get our cars over to the Salem Roadster Show on Thursday before the snow. It

was the first road test on my unfinished truck. It was a good to go over Thursday but I don't think we had any idea of

the amount of snow or road conditions to come. The show only had about half of the registered cars show up but it had

some really first class cars. I sat on my camera and broke it so I only shot a few pictures. There were a lot of owners

from Washington that endured long white knuckled drives. The two awards were given to these brave souls that drove so

far and long on the slick roads. The show was still fun even with all the weather. I'm looking forward to next years show.

2014 Calendar continued

We are into March with the car show season starting to

come about, lets hope for the best weather we can have

for the coming months.

The Portland Roadster Show is going to be on March

14th, 15th and 16th at the Portland Expo Center , it

should be a great show with many great cars and vend-

ers.

The City of Eugene, not to be outdone, will have their

Roadster Show on March 29th and 30th at the Lane

Event Center at 796 13th Ave. Eugene Oregon.

Puyallup Washington has an Almost Spring Swap Meet on

the 15th and 16th of March at the Washington State

Fairgrounds . They are at 110 9th Ave SW Puallup

Washington.

I would like to set up a Pot Luck / Soc Hop on the near

future at the Aumsville Community Center If this sounds okay let me know at [email protected].

Thanks one and all , see you at the next general meeting.

Frank Munz, Social Chair

Being as this is the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, I

was more than happy to put a color picture of Greg’s ’65

Mustang on the flyers for the club’s 2014 Carousel Cruise. In

addition to the Mustang, Greg and Marilyn have a 1957 Ford

Ranchero, a 1964 Corvette Roadster, a 1961 Chevy Biscayne,

and a 1954 Metropolitan.

If you are a WVSR club member, you have been to Greg and

Marilyn’s for a fantastic 4th of July picnic, or maybe to

their shop for a Carousel committee meeting, in either case

it is an experience! Lining the various walls, ceilings and any-

where else you look, are some really cool things! Greg col-

lects hats (he said he has about 2000) and he also collects

die cast cars (he says he has about over 200 of them). I like

the little bench he has made from the back of a 50’s some-

thing Ford! Just too cute! The big trophies on the shelves

above tell you he is no novice at the car show circuit!

As I

men-

tioned,

the Car-

ousel committee meets at Greg’s shop. It has been Greg who has led

the Carousel committee for the past 4 years, and I have to say he

does an excellent job with all the details. He and Mike Vickers, along

with club volunteers will put together a fine show again this year. If

you want to be a part, just give Greg a call! In addition to the Carou-

sel, Greg has been a member of the Salem Auto Council for 6 years,

and provides a report to the club at our monthly meetings.

On a personal note; Greg is a Salem native, attended McNary High

School (grad 1971), and married Marilyn 21 years ago. Greg seemed

like a

proud parent when he said the copy of the newsletter “will

go to my 3 daughters!” Shaya who lives in Stayton,

Rachael in St. Louis, and BreeAnna in Salem. Bet they will

be proud of their dad too! When I asked Greg if he had

any pets his reply was “No, just me for Marilyn!”

Greg’s job is very interesting. He works for the Benedic-

tine Sister’s Monastery as their “go to” maintenance guy.

He loves his job, you can tell whenever he mentions it.

Ok, now the good part! When I asked him it got a little

confusing…something about a possum that was killed, and a

prank by his friends. Anyway, I understand he drug a dead

possum through the streets of Salem hanging onto the

frame of his CJ-5! But I think he kind’a didn’t want me to

put that in here…

Thanks Greg for all you do for Willamette Valley Street

Rods! We do appreciate you!
