Redfish Island Anchorage Once a popular boater anchorage,

Galveston Bay's Redfish Island has been submerged in recent years due to erosion and subsidence.

Redfish provides protection from wind and wave action from about NNW clockwise to SSW.

The A Frame Anchorage provides better shelter for winds South clockwise to West

Redfish Island and the A Frame Anchorage are short day sails (6 nm from CC 2) where you can anchor, and raft up with your friends. They are also good overnight anchorages.

Pelican Island Anchorage An area just west of Pelican Island

near the bridge that connects Pelican Island to Galveston Island.

Just head for the Pelican Island Bridge. At Low tides this could be dicy for 6 foot draft boats.

From the anchorage, you have a 2 nm dinghy ride to Harbor House and the Strand Historical District.

Offats Bayou – Galveston Offats Bayou is a manmade

inlet on the west side of Galveston Island just off the ICW.

Inside the bayou, the best anchorage is on the south shore near the Galveston Boat Club.

Anchor carefully as the bayou has a grassy bottom, and even experienced cruisers sometimes find themselves unexpectedly adrift.

Boudreaux’s on the Bayou, Offats Bayou - Galveston One of the island's best-kept secrets is

Boudreaux's On The Bayou.

"After Hurricane Ike, we came back for the locals and the tourists who tell us they love to come here every year", said owner, Ray Caballero.

Boudreaux's has been in business for ten years as a steak and seafood restaurant with waterfront dining.

Harbor House at Pier 21- Galveston Harbor House has a small marina that is very

handy to events on the Strand in Downtown Galveston.

At last check they charged $1.75 a foot: power, water, and complimentary continental breakfast.

Also there is an Anchorage just beyond the Pelican Island bridge. It is two miles away and one can dinghy into Harbor House to visit you friends staying there and see the town.

Harbor house is 24 nm from Clear Lake It is within close distance from the Texas

Seaport, the Bishop’s Palace, the Galveston Island Railroad Museum, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, and the 1894 Opera House.

Moody Gardens – Galveston For a full-service boat slip, make

reservations at the Moody Gardens complex, also on the south shore.

The complex includes a hotel, restaurants and glass pyramids that house an aquarium, a rainforest and a discovery museum.

The complex also offers 3D, FX and Ridefilm theaters and an imported white sand beach.

A complimentary courtesy shuttle service runs between the hotel and marina.

Stingaree Marina – Crystal Beach Located on East Galveston Bay in

Crystal Beach. If you are looking for a campsite

located “on the water” Stingaree RV Park offers 24 canal R/V sites. All available with electric (most 30amp / few 50 amp), water and sewer hook ups.

Dock your boat at your camp or wet a line all in the comfort of your own R/V space.

This trip required security clearance from the U.S. Coast Guard to navigate past the refineries and petro-chem plants.

Double Bayou - Anahuac Slips have electrical hookups, but

you’ll have to make a hefty deposit to hook up to water.

These destinations are overnight stays, about 22 nm from Clear lake home ports.

The channel is 6 to 8 ft deep depending on tide. Most groundings happen between Marker 15 and the island.

It's 3nm from Marker 16 to the Anchorage. Take the East Fork. It is your first right turn in the Bayou. There is good water in the bayou all the way .

Deepest water is on the outside of the bayou bends; cutting the corners can run you aground

Matagorda Club Airfield Anchorage – Matagorda Bay A fairly protected area in Matagorda

Bay. This abandoned airfield is located on a

narrow island on the Gulf of Mexico. It was built in 1943 as an Army Airfield, to support the surrounding 50,825 acre

Matagorda Island Bombing Range, which conducted air-to-air & air-to-

ground gunnery training. It was labeled "Matagorda Club" on the

1964 San Antonio Sectional Chart (courtesy of Bill Suffa).

It was depicted as a private airfield, with a total of 5 runways (the longest

was a 4,285' asphalt runway). This is a great place for those who like

Army Hole – Matagorda Bay Shallow channel from Port O’Connor. “The prospect of a shrimp burrito at Josie's

is usually enough to persuade me to accompany my fisherman-husband to one of the last spots on earth where men truly reign supreme; Port O'Connor, Texas. Everyone sort-of turns into Hemingway while there, and even amongst the fishermen, this little town (population about 1200), has been something of a hidey-hole.”

seen anchored out in Matagorda Bay Side trip to the restored Matagorda Island

Head for the town of Matagorda where you will have to pass through a set of locks.

Matagorda Harbor Marina – Matagorda Peninsula Matagorda Harbor is at Texas mile 440

on the Intracoastal Waterway, about one mile northeast of its intersection with the Colorado River.

Navigation up the Colorado River is covered by NOAA chart 11319, "Intracoastal Waterway-Cedar Lakes to Espiritu Santo Bay."

The port turning basin and port terminal are 15 miles upriver from the locks at the Intracoastal Waterway.
