November 10, 2014 A School’s Influence I’m a big believer that education is the one thing that you can take with you wherever you go. A great education can open doors, build bridges, and create opportunities throughout your life. The foundation of learning starts with the basics (reading, writing, and math) and go much further into other areas of knowl- edge like art, music, physical education, and Spanish. Addition- ally, I know that when a school and parents have a strong partner- ship, the sky’s the limit. A teacher can prepare the world’s greatest lesson, have the per- fect class size, and develop a wonderful classroom environment; but, if a student is absent that day, it doesn’t make a difference. Numerous studies show that kids that who are at school and on time have higher achievement. Kids that miss a lot of school miss a lot of learning, and it shows in their academic perform- ance. Getting kids to class is one area where the school and par- ents are partners. Sometimes the boundary between these two worlds (home and school) becomes blurry. Homework is a great example. Some- times when we help our kids with homework, we feel like a teacher. Sometimes when, as a teacher, we review homework in class, we feel like a parent. Both roles are important and both make a real difference. When this partnership is strong, it works very well and prepares a child for life’s challenges. When the home and school share the same goal it can really pay off for a lifetime. When we are all on the same page, children win. That is a school’s real influence— partnering with parents for a child’s success. A School’s Influence

I’m a big believer that education is the one thing that you can

take with you wherever you go. A great education can open

doors, build bridges, and create opportunities throughout your

life. The foundation of learning starts with the basics (reading,

writing, and math) and go much further into other areas of knowl-

edge like art, music, physical education, and Spanish. Addition-

ally, I know that when a school and parents have a strong partner-

ship, the sky’s the limit.

A teacher can prepare the world’s greatest lesson, have the per-

fect class size, and develop a wonderful classroom environment;

but, if a student is absent that day, it doesn’t make a difference.

Numerous studies show that kids that who are at school and on

time have higher achievement. Kids that miss a lot of school

miss a lot of learning, and it shows in their academic perform-

ance. Getting kids to class is one area where the school and par-

ents are partners.

Sometimes the boundary between these two worlds (home and

school) becomes blurry. Homework is a great example. Some-

times when we help our kids with homework, we feel like a

teacher. Sometimes when, as a teacher, we review homework in

class, we feel like a parent. Both roles are important and both

make a real difference.

When this partnership is strong, it works very well and prepares a

child for life’s challenges. When the home and school share the

same goal it can really pay off for a lifetime. When we are all on

the same page, children win. That is a school’s real influence—

partnering with parents for a child’s success.

PAGE 2 CROWN POINTE ACADEMY UPDATE VOLUME 12, ISSUE 6

Volunteer Update Thank you to all of the families who attended our first Volunteer Work Night last Friday! We had over 45

adult volunteers working hard to complete projects for the CPA staff. Collectively, those volunteers

helped us log over 100 hours towards our goal of 14,000 hours for the year. Thank you!

SAVE THE DATES! Additional Volunteer Work Nights for the year will be on: December 5th, January

30th, March 6th, and April 10th.

Our annual Chick-fil-a Spirit Night Fundraiser will be on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 5:00-8:00

p.m. Join us for dinner that night and help us raise funds that go towards honoring our volunteers at CPA.

20% of proceeds will come back to the school and help us pay for babysitting and snacks at our monthly

work nights as well as our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast in April. We hope to see you there!

If you have questions about volunteering at Crown Pointe Academy, please contact Diana Castellano, the

Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected] or by phone at (303) 428-1882 ext.

104. You may also contact Mr. Ouweneel at extension 106 or Mrs. Keyes at extension 107. We want to

help each parent or family member find a way to volunteer in a meaningful way at Crown Pointe Acad-

emy.

Driving Safety Reminder

Crown Pointe Academy’s traffic plan was designed to insure student safety primarily, but to also allow

for as much ease and efficiency as possible for parents and family members. With that in mind, we

would like to remind parents of a few items:

1. Please do not park your cars along 86th Avenue on the west side of the parking lot exit.

When cars are parked along that stretch, there is not adequate visibility for cars exiting the

parking lot. There are also No Parking signs posted there, and individuals that park along

that stretch risk the possibility of being ticketed by the Westminster Police Department.

2. Please do not drop your student(s) off in the middle of the parking lot or along the stretch of the

driveway that is unsupervised by staff. We have many assistants on duty each morning to greet

your child(ren) and make sure they exit their vehicle safely.

3. Please do not drop your children off at school until 7:30 a.m. There is not supervision until that

time.

4. Do not get out of your vehicle at any time in the driveline! This slows down the entire drop off and

pick up procedure.

5. Remember that the safety of all CPA students and staff members is our top priority. Please drive

slowly and cautiously in the parking lot, and be sure to obey all posted traffic signs in the commu-

nity.

We appreciate your continued support of our traffic plan!

ward your school commitments hours.

cery purchase you make at King Soopers earns 5% back to support our kids through CPA-

Our work lives are often filled with what can seem like unbearable amounts of stress. And while some of

those stresses are unavoidable, there’s a lot you can do to start to whittle those high levels of stress down to

something that feels at least manageable. Here are a few suggestions:

Know when to say no. That means you have to first understand your own limits. Then set limits on others

so they don’t encroach on your time by pressuring you to take on tasks or responsibilities that will throw

you out of balance.

If possible, avoid people who consistently stress you out. You can’t steer clear of everyone who inadver-

tently or occasionally causes you anxiety. But you can avoid people who have a history of leaving you

feeling stressed after you’ve tried to change the situation and they haven’t responded.

Don’t expose yourself to unnecessary environmental stressors. For instance, if you read the news on the

Internet during your break, but it leaves you feeling tense, stop reading the news on your break. Do

something that relaxes you instead: Go for a short walk, knit, meditate, work a puzzle.

Learn to manage your time. Letting projects go until the deadline is upon you will undoubtedly cause you

stress. Work at a steady pace--and don’t procrastinate. Procrastination can affect the quality of your

work and leave you feeling anxious and strained for prolonged periods.

Stressed Out? Take These Steps
