Connection Helps Us Love Like Jesus I have always been fascinated by Legos. When I was in first grade, I spent most of my recess time building airplanes, cars, and intricate buildings to house them. Even as an adult, I love going to Lego Land at the Mall of America. It amazes me how they can take something as simple as a Lego and connect millions of them together to make a 40-foot tall spaceship or a life-sized stormtrooper from Star Wars. At the mall, they have huge containers overflowing with individual Legos that are full of potential, just waiting for a creative kid to come along and put them together to make something awesome! Humans aren’t all that different from Legos. We come in all shapes, colors and sizes. But most importantly, we are capable of great things when we are connected to each other. Connection is something that we all desire. We don’t all desire it in the same quantity; some of us only have a couple connectors on our Lego, and some of us have room for many connection points. But deep down, we all need quality connection. In John 15:9-13 Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus sums up the law in this simple but hard to achieve command. It takes a lot of love and care for another person to be willing to lay down your life for them. The kind of love and care that are only likely to develop from being in genuine, intimate, and faith -connected relations with others. I would like to encourage each of you to find a genuine connection point at CrossRoads. Just showing up for Sunday morning service does not give you an opportunity for this level of connection. The cost to attend Trout Lake Camp this coming summer will be up to $580 per camper. The TLC fund is designed to help make camp a little more affordable for families. We believe the camp experience can deepen the faith of our children and teens. Often children make decisions for Christ as a result of spending a week at camp. How can you help? Please consider a donation to the TLC fund. Donations can be made online (if you are viewing the newsletter via computer) at : Give to Camp Fund. Or, you can designate “Camp Fund” in the memo of your check. Contact Melissa at [email protected] with any questions.

We have a few openings in three of our Children’s Ministries areas: 1) We need 5-6 families or

individuals to join our nursery team and spend time with some wonderful babies and toddlers on a rotation during worship and children’s Sunday School (your choice).

2) We have ongoing needs in AWANA to serve the 150 kids we have registered!

3) If you can’t be here mid-week, we have an opening to lead Prime Time a few sessions/year on Sunday mornings.

Please contact Melissa if you have any questions or would like to volunteer: [email protected].

Bible Trivia

1. Keep your resolutions simple. Focus clearly on 1-2 of your most important goals.

2. Choose carefully. Concentrate on those that will have the greatest impact on your happiness, health and fulfillment.

3. Be realistic. Don’t aim too high or ignore reality.

4. Create bite-sized portions. Break goals down into manageable chunks. Set clear, realistic goals and then decide exactly how you will make it happen.

5. Plan a time-frame. Use a calendar so you can plan your actions for the coming weeks, and decide when and how often to evaluate.

A new year is about renewal—starting with a clean slate. We consider the year’s past challenges, celebrate the year’s past accomplishments and look forward to the growth that comes from each.

Many of us have gathered up willpower for a brand new set of New Year’s resolutions. A large number of resolutions are broken within weeks if not days of when they were made. Hopefully those of you reading this article, still have your resolutions for 2020!

How can you make this year more successful? It’s not as hard as you may think. There are some easy ways to set yourself on a path for success:

Did You Know?

Larry and Pam Larson have visited 242 lighthouses in the U.S. and Canada. They are hoping to add more this year. One of their favorites is Split Rock Lighthouse, right here in Minnesota. They have also been to 61 of Minnesota’s 67 State Parks. Naturally, Itasca is one of their favorites. Need any ideas for your next road trip? These two would be a great resource!

Linda Danielson is a knitting machine! Oops, I mean she has a knitting machine. She is able to ‘knit’ a sweater in as little as two days. It still requires her hands, and some creative designing, but its much faster than two needles. One of the most unique sweaters she has made had penguins all over it. Maybe she has a few pictures she could show you of some of her handmade sweaters, dresses, suits, or scarves!

6. Make notes. Make a note of your time-frame, so it’s a physical reminder of what you’re aiming for. Write details down and add your motivations.

7. Treat yourself. Write down the rewards you will give yourself at the milestones.

8. Receive support. Choose people that have been trustworthy and supportive.

9. Don’t give up. Slip-ups can happen, but don’t use it as an excuse to give up.

Your happiness is worth the time and effort, so get started and good luck!

Thirty of these lovely baskets were delivered to our CrossRoads neighbors before Christmas. Several calls, cards of appreciation and thanks were received from our neighbors. Thank you to all who helped prepare these special gifts!
