Accommodation. In the afternoon, a city tour of Salta, visiting the San Bernardo Hill, where the view of the city is magnificent. Return to the hotel. Dinner. DAY 02 SALTA / SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES Departure on the touristic 'Tren a las Nubes' (Train to the Clouds). The highlight of this trip is the amazing crossing of the viaduct, suspended on the abyss on fabulous pillars. Accommodation in the old town of San Antonio de los Cobres. Dinner and accommodation. DAY 03 SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES / SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA Breakfast. Departure to San Pedro de Atacama, near Toconao, a small village and oasis where different kind of fruits are grown. Finally, after bordering the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt pit in Chile, we will arrive in San Pedro de Atacama. Accommodation. Lunch en route. DAY 04 SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA Early departure to visit the Tatio Geyser (4,300 m. / 14,100 feet above sea level), a geothermic field surrounded by high summits, where violent water-spouts spring up at sunrise, and the coloring of the soil and sky stands out among the steam columns at the light of the first sunbeams. Lunch in route. In the afternoon, tour to the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) an outstandingly beautiful geological formation. Return to the hotel. DAY 05 SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA / SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY Breakfast. Departure from San Pedro de Atacama passing by Susques, a tiny colonial town; and Quebrada Mal Paso (Mal Paso Gorge). Finally, we will arrive at Salinas Blancas (White Salt Pit), a place of striking beauty. We will be able to observe the salt plains reflecting the blue sky at this point, as it makes them look like an enormous hill-surrounded by sea. Then, it is possible to appreciate Cuesta de Lipán, (Lipán Slope), leading upward to the plateau, at 4,170 meters (13,700 feet) above sea level. We will proceed to Purmamarca, appreciating the Seven Color Hill behind us. Lunch. Then the visit continues to Jujuy city. Accommodation. DAY 06 SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Safari to the Calchaquí Valleys DAY 01 SALTA Reception at the local airport. Transfer to the hotel. City tour of Salta, a city of a very rich architecture, including the Cathedral and the Cabildo (Old City Hall) both built in the XIX century. One of the most interesting spots is the panoramic view of the city from San Bernardo Hill. Return to the hotel. DAY 02 SALTA / CAFAYATE Continental breakfast. Departure on the Movitrack crossing the Lerma Valley to reach the Escoipe Canyon and Cuesta del Obispo (Bishop's Slope). Along the Recta de Tin-Tin route, we will travel through the National Park Los Cardones to reach the old village of Cachi, placed at the foot of the snow-covered peak of Mt. Cachi (6,380 meters / 20,931 feet). On a picturesque little road, we will skirt the fertile valleys of the Calchaquí River through little villages such as Molinos, Angastaco and San Carlos. Later, we will cross the impressive Quebrada de las Flechas (Arrows Gorge). We will continue to Cafayate to know and "taste" the main activity of this valley: wine production. Accommodation DAY 03 CAFAYATE / SALTA Continental breakfast. We will visit the Quilmes Ruins. On our way back to Salta, we will travel through the amazing landscape of the Quebrada de las Conchas (Calchaquí River Gorge) with its fascinating rock formations that will be greatly admired from the open roof of the MoviTrack and then, we will visit to Santa Anita, a traditional goat dairy farm. Arrival in Salta and accommodation. DAY 04 SALTA Continental breakfast. Departure towards a densely forested area in the outskirts of Salta to enjoy a half day birdwatching tour, with guides specialized in ornithology, to see the bird species typical of the Argentinian Norwest, which outstand for their immense beauty and great variety. Don´t miss the imposing flight of the Condor and the continuos fluttering of the little birds in the lusty forest. Return to Salta. Accommodation. DAY 05 SALTA / BUENOS AIRES Continental breakfast. On the way, the tour stops several times along the impressive "Quebrada del Toro" (Bull's Gorge), until reaching San Antonio de los Cobres (3,775 m). The trip continues along the old route 40 through the Puna until the Salinas Grandes (Grand Salt Pit). Several stops on the way will allow you to take pictures of the vast landscape and the llamas. After crossing a 4,000 metre pass in height, the way goes down the spiral-like route of Cuesta de Lipan through the Purmamarca Valley until the historical village of the same name, where the Seven Color Hill provides a most attractive backdrop. After a walk through this nice village, which has an important handicraft market, we will continue to Maimará, another village located in the famous Quebrada de Humahuaca (Humahuaca Gorge). Dinner. Accommodation. DAY 03 MAIMARA / SALTA Continental breakfast. In the morning, departure to Humahuaca, visiting the typical villages of the Puna. We will stop at Tilcara, to visit the Pucara de Tilcara, old Precolombian aborigine stronghold partially rebuilt. We will continue to Humahuaca Village to discover a town where people still keep many old traditions in their everyday life, combined with many traits of modernity. In the afternoon, return to Salta making a stop at San Salvador de Jujuy, for a short visit of the most interesting places in the city. We will visit to a traditional farm in Salta, located in the middle of an area covered by subtropical vegetation. Arrival in Salta. Accommodation. DAY 04 SALTA Continental breakfast. Departure towards a densely forested area in the outskirts of Salta to enjoy a half day birdwatching tour, with guides specialized in ornithology. DAY 02 SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY / HUMAHUACA / IRUYA After breakfast, drive into the Humahuaca gorge, a narrow and deep geological fault that gains height northwards along 170 km (105 miles) up to the village of Iruya, small hidden town that provides the very off-the- beaten-track feelings. Almost hanging on the mountain side, Iruya boasts the silent magnificence of the ancient aborigine culture. The Humahuaca gorge hosts a myriad of small towns where aboriginal and colonial cultures have mixed over hundreds of years: Tumbaya, Maimará, Uquia, which we visit on our way. Countless archaeological sites remain next to churches, parks and narrow cobbled streets from the first centuries of the Spanish conquest. Towns seem to have aimed at conserving their ancient traditions and rich past, as is evidenced in the colorful markets, old colonial mansions and neat mud and straw huts where people still live. Accommodation at local inn. Dinner. DAY 03 IRUYA / PURMAMARCA Breakfast. Departure to Purmamarca visiting the typical villages of the Puna. Stop at Tilcara to visit the Pucará de Tilcara, old pre-Colombian aborigine stronghold partially rebuilt, and the Historic Museum of the Province in front of the main square, which counts with an interesting asset of inca art pieces coming from different sites in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Arrival at Purmamarca, a picturesque town seemingly stuck in ancient times, with the striking Cerro de los Siete Colores ('Seven Colored Mount) which frames its adobe parish church devoted to St. Rosa de Lima dating back to 1648 and declared National Historic Monument. Dinner and accommodation at Manantial del Silencio hotel. DAY 04 PURMAMARCA / JUJUY Breakfast. Departure to San Salvador de Jujuy local airport.
