Shared footway/cycle path
A shared path can be either alongside a carriageway or through an area closed to motor traffic. Subtle changes in the surface material and wayfinding may be provided to allow some indication to pedestrians of where cyclists are likely to travel.
This cycle path can vary from a painted line, to a raised path, or a kerb-segregated path to provide segregation from motor vehicles. This will typically be located between a carriageway and a footway. These lanes travel in the same direction as traffic, with one lane typically provided on both sides of the carriageway.
Similar to a one-way cycle path this provides a protect space for cyclists away from motor vehicles. A two-way cycle path is located on one side of the carriageway and accommodates people travelling in both directions.
