IInnttrroodduuccttiioonn::

Aus is one of the major crops in Bangladesh. At the sowing period, favourable weather condition, electricitymanagement was favourable this year all over the country. The crop experienced favourable moisture in the

soil. As a result, production of crop as well as coverage area increased significantly.

To increase the production of rice, government attention was keen regarding supply of seeds, fertilizer,irrigation facilities etc. There was no artificial crisis of fertilizer. Due to all these amenities from the part ofgovernment, coverage area, yield rate and production of Aus crop increased significantly. Comparing theresults of successive years, it reveals that farmers were interested to grow high yielding variety (HYV) ratherthan local variety of Aus crop.

AArreeaa::

Total area under Aus crop has been estimated at 1.11 million hectares this year as compared to 0.98 millionhectares in the last year which is 13.09 % higher. Estimates of total area of this year and the last year byvariety are as follows;

Total Aus production of 2010-2011 has been estimated at 2.132 million metric ton as compared to 1.709million metric ton which is 24.79 % higher than that of last year. Estimates of production by varieties andcombined total of Aus are as follows;

Estimates of Aus Rice, 2009-2010

IntroductuonAus is one of tyhe major crops in Bangladesh. This year, at the sowing period favourable weather

condition, electrictity management and stable market price was favourable all over the country. But at theflowering stage of the crop,that is during the months of June to July there were hardly any rain thourthout

the country. The crop experienced lack of moisture in the soil. As a result production of crop as well ascoverage area declined significantly.

Attitude of the government towards irrigation was keen all ful attention wad paid on rural electricitymangagement system thoourthout the contry. There was no artifical crisis of fertilizers. Inspite ofall these amenities from the part og veroernment , coverage area, yield rate and production of Auscrop dropped significantly. Comparing the results of last rwo successive years, it reverals thatfarmers were interested to grow thigh yielding variety (HYV) rather than locval variety of Aus crop.

AreaTotal area under Aus crop has been estimated at 0.98 million hectares this year as compared to1.07 million bectares in the last year which is 7.64% lower . Estimates of total area of this year

and the last year by variety are as follows :

Estimates of Aman Rice, 2009-2010

Introduction

Aman is an important crop in Bangladesh for its huge production. This Year at the sowingperiod, favorable weather condition, electricity management and stable market positionhelped the farmers to bring more area under aman crop.

The weather condition was reasonable pretty at wowing stage. Late monsoon throughoutthe country brought low lying area under aman crop. For this reason the coverage arearaised substantially. More over Government attitude towards irrigation was keen.Government paid complete attention on rural electricity management system throughoutthe country and offered free irrigation to the nor them part of Bangladesh. Aman is anature based crop. Some casualty occurred in some of the regions due to start of latemonsoon. Apart from this the weather was quite satisfactory from plantation throughharvesting stage of the crop. Comparing the results of last two successive years, it reveals

that farmers were interested to grow High Yielding variety (HYV) rather than local variety.

Area :

Total area under aman crop has been estimated at 5.66 million hecteres this year ascompared to 5.50 million hectares in the last year which is 3.01 percent higher. Estimatedof total area of this year as well as the last year by variety are as follows :

Average yield rate of 2009-2010 has been estimated at 2.156 metric tons per hectarewhich is 2.08 percent upper as compared to that of last year. Estimates of yield rates byvarieties and combined average yield rate of all varieties are as follows:

Boro is the most important crop in Bangladesh for its huge production. This year, at the sowing

period, favourable weather condition, electricity management and stable market position helpedthe farmers to bring more area under boro crop.

The weather condition was reasonably pretty from the sowing to growing stage. The government

attitude towards irrigation was keen. Government paid full attention on rural electricity

management system throughout the country. There was no artificial crisis of fertilizers, which gave

a remarkable high growth of crop except small scale flood in some border districts. It causes

damage of boro crop for 50,000 hectares of land. There was no vulnerable situation from

plantation through harvesting period of the crop. Comparing the results of last two successive

years, it reveals that farmers were interested to grow high yielding variety (HYV) this year.

Total area under boro crop has been estimated at 47.07 lac hectares this year as compared to47.16 lac hectares in the last year which is very close. Estimates of total area of this year as wellas the last year by variety are as follows :

Adjusted Figure of Boro Production (2009-10)The adjusted figures of area, yield rate and production of boro for the year 2009-10 have

been estimated for approval as per decision taken in the meeting held on 08-08-2010 among theofficials of BBS, DAE and SPARSO. The adjusted figures of area, yield and production of boro hasbeen obtained using the area figure 47.80 lac hectares estimated by SPARSO and per hectareyield rate 3.837 metric tons estimated by BBS. Thus the adjusted production of boro has been

estimated 183.41 lac metric tons which is given below:
