Google “Croatia Vacation” and you’ll be carried away on a tide of superlatives.
Croatia is a treasure trove waiting to be discovered: Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split and
over 1,000 islands lining one of the most stunning coastlines in the world.
On this tour we have tried to orchestrate the most beautiful, interesting, delicious,
varied and fun-filled itinerary possible. It is the “last frontier” in Europe of
unspoiled beauty, with a long history and a rich Jewish past.
In 2014 we offered our first tour of Croatia. At that time no-one knew just what a
fabulous vacation destination it is. Now we do!!!
We start with 3 days in the majestic 5* Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb, where we were
so royally treated last year, followed by a cruise along the stunning Croatian coast.
For this tour, we have secured a BRAND NEW mega-yacht, not yet even launched,
and we will be sailing just a few hours per day on a leisurely cruise through the
islands between Split where we board and Dubrovnik where we disembark.
The 5 star Esplanade, Zagreb,
will be our base for a long
weekend in the city; on
Sunday, we head to the
Adriatic Coast to begin our
cruise on the M/V ADMIRAL,
sailing from Sibenik to
Dubrovnik.
Our last Shabbat we will spend
in one of the top 5* Hotels in
Dubrovnik giving us plenty of
opportunity to visit this fascinating city.
Itinerary: Croatia, June 18-28, 2015 Optional post-tour of Bosnia and Montenegro 28-30 June, DETAILS TO FOLLOW
Day 1: Thursday, June 18. Meeting point: Zagreb airport (ZAG) between 11am – 2pm Fly via Europe on the airline of your choice: connect to Zagreb, arriving between 11am-2pm. from NY: Delta, AA, Lufthansa, British, Swiss | from TLV: via VIE or IST | from LON: BA direct
After lunch we’ll visit Lekenik, better to known to Jewish visitors by its fictional name of Anatevka. Here much of the film Fiddler on the Roof was shot and today a Jewish cultural experience is being created around this village which is little changed from the 19th century, if not earlier.
From there, en route to Zagreb, we’ll visit the tragically unique, and incredibly revealing, Jewish cemetery. Once in town you might like to shop at a fabulous 4th generation hat shop (men’s too) and enjoy a coffee in the city center before coming to the hotel. While we are enjoying dinner, our bags will be delivered to the superior rooms we have reserved. http://www.esplanade.hr
Day 2: Friday, June 19 A wonderful day tour to the old capital of Varazdin and to Trakoscan Castle will give us an introduction to the history of the country. Mid-afternoon we’ll head back to Zagreb to arrive in good time for Shabbat which starts at 8.30pm. Davening and Dinner will be in our lovely hotel.
Day 3: Shabbat, June 20 A day spent not just praying, eating and sleeping but also enjoying a guided tour of the city and a visit to one of the splendid museums with which the city is blessed. Motzaei Shabbat: as always on our tours, an evening of fun out on the town - in Zagreb!
Day 4: Sunday, June 21
It’s time to head towards our cruise mega-yacht Admiral!! An early start will bring us after a couple of hours’ drive to the Plitvice Lakes, one of the “must-sees” in Croatia. Here we will take a 2-3 hour easy “hike” between the falls and enjoy a picnic lunch. Non-hikers can take leisurely strolls in this gorgeous Park or ride the ferries and buses that are available.
We’ll continue to Zadar to see the town and the unique sea-organ. This is a modern work of art-engineering which enables the sea to create incredible orchestrations using the holes in the sea wall connected to pipes. After a drink in our favourite bar, we’ll drive the last hour to meet the Admiral, waiting for us in the port of Sebenik. We’ll enjoy dinner on board and spend the rest of the evening hours in the town.
For an idea of how the boat will look you can click on this link: here (use ctrl-click) Once on board we’ll have our own private floating paradise: hotel, kosher restaurant and transport all in one to provide the ideal framework for us to enjoy the stunning islands and the Dalmatian Coast. We sail for just a few hours each day and dock each evening for a good night’s sleep.
Days 5-9: Monday – Friday, June 22 -26 Our days will be filled with a mixture of land tours and activities – with lots of choices. There will be water sports – water-skiing, diving, bananas, windsurfing, jet skis etc and the possibility of touring on the islands.
We’ll visit Trogir. Everyone raves about the town of Trogir and we’ll spend a morning here to see what all the excitement is about. After lunch on board, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Diocletian’s Palace in Split, a tour of the Old Town, with its general and Jewish history and meet the unique individuals who constitute the Jewish
community and pray in it’s ancient synagogue. For an adrenalin rush, we will run an ATV quad-bike tour in the countryside on the island of Brac as part of our visit to that island. We’re going to spend most of one day on Hvar Island. In the morning we’ll take a tour and in the afternoon continue to discover what this piece of heaven on earth has to offer. More water fun for those who wish to…
We’ll move on towards evening so as to avoid some of the excesses of the Hvar nightlife scene – unless you ask to stay. (Hvar at night is a whole lot of fun!!)
Enjoy dinner as we sail to Korcula, arriving as the town prepares for another wonderful evening. Overnight we’ll stay in Korcula harbour, so you don’t have a curfew!!
Breakfast will be on the move as we sail to Mljet, the lushest of all Croatia’s islands. We’ll spend a few hours in the island’s National Park, hiking, swimming, kayaking, cycling or strolling before returning to the Admiral for lunch.
Days 9-11: Friday – Sunday June 26 - 28
Dubrovnik, “Pearl of the Adriatic”. Grand Imperial Hilton Hotel 5*. We’ll spend the whole of Friday sightseeing and Shabbat walking. The Jewish landmarks will of course feature strongly in the Dubrovnik program. We will be sleeping and fine dining in Dubrovnik.
On Sunday morning, we will bring you to DBV airport to catch your flights home.
A word about the M/V Admiral: more a brand new private yacht than a
cruise ship, the Admiral is blessed with lovely public areas in which you will spend 90% of your waking hours. The cabins are well-equipped, each with private facilities, but they are not overly spacious. The entire boat is ours, and the atmosphere is incomparable.
FAQ’s Wining and Dining: Kashrut: Tefillot
Our signature combination - local gourmet cuisine prepared on board by the
yacht’s chefs under the scrutiny of a Mashgiach appointed by our Rav Machshir, Rav Kotel Da-Don, Rav of Zagreb.
All meat will be "glatt", all milk will be approved "stam".
Chalav Yisrael available, if requested in advance. Fine wines (from Croatia, Israel and Europe) will be unlimited as usual.
A Sefer Torah will accompany us on the cruise and Tefillot will be held three
times a day.
As with all our tours, there is no dress code for any day of the week, and we encourage a relaxed atmosphere. No need to “dress up”. Feel at home – this is
your very own private yacht gliding through the turquoise waters of the Adriatic!!
