Trying to JUST WOW the customers instead of selling

Most new online business entrepreneurs go for a website that is colorful and very attractive. They assume that by adding loads of flashy graphics as well as animation they would be able to capture attention. Well of course they would be able to catch attention however is that everything you want? The main goal of any online entrepreneur is to be able to convert their visitors into customers using their website.

I am not saying that designs are bad for your website because it is not, but anything that is too much is not good. If you are planning on using some graphics then it is better that you use it to support your main goal which is TO GET PEOPLE TO BUY.

Trying to JUST WOW the customers instead of selling

It is natural that you want to impress your visitors by showing off shinning and shimmering stuff but too much clutter promotes confusion and can ruin your credibility. Anything that distracts visitors from your copy is guaranteed to lose you sales. So if a graphic does not directly relate to your product or service, then it should not be on your website.

So the number one critical error in your website design would be trying to wow your customers with too much graphics. The best way to capture your customers’ attention and hence boost sales is to keep everything simple and uncomplicated.

Try to keep away from this critical error in your website by not using colored or patterned backgrounds (keep it plain), these patterned backgrounds make it really difficult to read your sales copy.

Your links and format should be consistent. In general links are blued and underlined, so be sure to follow this norm. Yes, it does seem boring however people will recognize it right away as a link. So in this case boring (design) is effective.

Creating a slow website with multiple pages

Another critical error in website design is creating a website that is too huge that takes like years to load. I mean do you think everyone has the patience to wait for your website to load? The answer is NO. People will just close your website and go to another website that can give them what they are looking for, and a website that loads faster than yours.

One critical error in your website design (why it takes years to load) is that there are too many pages. You can fix this critical error by reducing the number of pages, I mean you do not need one webpage per product right?

Creating a slow website with multiple pages

One way to rectify this critical error on your website you have to lesson the number of files on your web pages. The more files that you have the longer it takes for it to load. If possible try to use colored texts instead of graphics to grab attention. If you cannot avoid using graphics then make sure that the file is small.

With every click your prospects make the higher chances of loosing that sale. If there is no way to feature all your products in one page then try to group them together (categories) and display each category of products on its own page, instead of featuring one product per page.

Confusing navigation

There would always be people who like showing off, same thing goes for web designers. They want to show people that they are good at what they do so they try to come up with new ways to navigate through a multi-paged website. What they do is that they hide links beneath icons or images, so that users cannot find the links unless of course their mouse hovers over the graphics

This is a critical error in website design because it does not help people in any way find what they are looking for.
