What are Crisis Inter*ention Ser*ices?
• Assistance to consumers in resolving and/or diffJsing crisis sitJations via problem solving, supporH, and refer@al.
• Assessment and consultation in identif:ing mental health problems and needs, as well as options for mental health t@eatAent or other inter*entions and communit: ser*ices.

Who is eligible for ser*ices?
• Anyone who requests them regardless of age, income, or health insurance.
• Mental health consumers and persons interested in their wellbeing including, but not limited to, family, `iends, human ser*ices agencies, school personnel, and law enforcement and courH officers.
How and where are Crisis Ser*ices provided?
• Staff members will work to understand a caller’s needs and requests and then consider how and where to most effectively interact with consumers and/or other callers.

What are Emergency Mental Health Ser*ices?
• Emergency Mental Health Ser*ices consist of the review and execution of requests for involuntar: mental health evaluation and t@eatAent.
• Emergency Mental Health Ser*ices are provided only aster less-‐rest@ictive and less-‐int@Jsive crisis inter*ention ser*ices have been provided.
• Emergency Mental Health Ser*ices are provided in accordance with the Mental Health Procedures Act of 1976, Section 302.
• Emergency Mental Health Ser*ices are provided by SAM, Inc. staff under the authorit: delegated to them by the Berks Count: Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities prog@am.

• SAM, Inc. Crisis Center staff does not have the means to rest@ain or othergise rest@ict people’s movements, or to provide care for medical problems, drJg/alcohol intoxication, or withdrawal.

Minors Consent Act
· Act 147 Amends the “Minors Consent to Medical, Dental and Other Health Ser*ices” (35 P.S. §1010 et seq.) (the “Minors Consent Act”)
· Nothing in Act 147 is intended to rest@ict the rights of a minor who satisfies the conditions of the Minors Consent Act. Act 147: 1.1(c)

• Minor shall be discharged whenever: – Arending physician deterAines that minor is no longer in need of
t@eatAent; – Consent to t@eatAent has been revoked; – The end of the time period of the order; or – Whichever comes first.

CourH conducts a review hearing to deterAine whether to: - release the minor; - make a subsequent order for inpatient t@eatAent not to exceed 60
days, subject to discharge whenever the arending physician deterAines the minor is no longer in need of t@eatAent;
- consent (parental) is revoked under Parag@aph 5; or - CourH may order 60-‐day period of t@eatAent.
