to the November edition of the Town
Crier. Our cover photo is of the ‘Paper
Dialogues’ exhibition which took place in the Town Hall’s
Assembly Room last month, and which entranced visitors
in their hundreds, including many groups of students.
From early this month the Roll of Honour is once
again on display in the arcade of de Gruchy’s, reminding
us that we are half-way through the Royal British Legion’s
Poppy Appeal which culminates in Armistice Day and
Remembrance Sunday. It is always an honour to welcome
the Chelsea Pensioners to St Helier and the reception
following the service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 13th
November gives us the chance to listen to their stories
as well as to meet some of the many other veterans who
take part in the parade. The Jersey Eistedfodd also gets
underway this month, giving islanders of all ages the
opportunity to perform on various stages especially at the
Opera House. Town traders will be particularly focused
this month on enhancing their appeal to shoppers in the
run–up to Christmas; several traders’ groups are supported
by the Parish in their efforts to ensure that areas such as
Colomberie, West’s Centre, Conway Street and the Parade
manage to attract customers, while the presence of
numerous restaurants, pubs and cafés in St Helier mean
that a trip to town is a satisfying experience for residents,
shoppers and visitors alike.
We hope you enjoy receiving our monthly Parish
magazine. Available by post and email (on request), from
a dozen distribution points in St Helier, and online, the
Town Crier combines useful information with news about
events that take place in our busy Parish. We are grateful
to our advertisers whose support enables us to produce
the magazine at no cost to ratepayers. Please let us know
if you would like to be included in the mailing list.
