History & Foundations of CRICPE

The Center for Research on Instructional Change in Postsecondary Education (CRICPE) was established in 2014 as a university-level research center that conducts and supports interdisciplinary research, particularly focused on promoting transformative change in higher education. The center was co-founded by Dr. Andrea Beach a Professor in the Education, Leadership, Research and Technology department and Dr. Charles Henderson a Professor in the Department of Physics and the Mallinson Institute for Science Education. They serve as the co-directors of the CRICPE. CRICPE builds on the recognized WMU research strengths in higher education and STEM education, and serves as a focal point for WMU faculty and external collaborators to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative research related to facilitating change in postsecondary education. Interdisciplinary collaborative research is the heartbeat of CRICPE and it expected that all individuals who work for and with the center to embrace collaboration.

CRICPE is comprised of a vigorous administrative and research staff to support its current grant portfolio. Monica Liggins-Abrams, Associate Director, oversees the day-to-day operations of CRICPE (administrative and financial). Currently the Center employs:

• Six post-doctoral research associates • Two administrative staff members • One research staff member • One visiting scholar • Five graduate research assistants

CRICPE also collaborates with five faculty members (four internal and one external to WMU) on funded projects.
