Hands on activities incorporating various 7th grade math standards such as proportions, fractions, decimals, percentages, unit rate, circumference, probability, symmetry, and problem solving skills

Blood Fountain – Unit rate

If this fountain pumps 862 ounces in 5 minutes, calculate the unit rate of ounces per second.

Uncle Fester’s Head

Use the skeleton hands to grab some colored brain pieces. Calculate the part of each color represented in fractions, decimals and percentage.

Trickle of Blood

Commutative Property with Fractions: Student 1 measures and takes ½ of the blood, then 1/5 of that. Student 2 measures and takes 1/5 of the blood then ½ of that. Compare the length that remains.

Zombie Head

If this zombie removed his read and rolled it down a hill, how many times would it roll to travel 1 mile? Diameter of zombie head = 9”

Mice in the Cauldron

Reach in the cauldron, pull out a mouse, chart your results, return the mouse and repeat 9 more times. Make a prediction about the probability of selecting a black or white mouse. Discuss the effects of replacement versus non-replacement selection of probability.

Geo - Mirra

Use the Geo-Mirra to create a reflective drawing of a creepy object

Spider Legs from the Ceiling

A mother spider had each of the spiders hanging from the ceiling. If each of these baby spiders have the same number of babies that their mother had, how many spider legs will there be? Can this be written as an exponential equation? If so, please do so.

Computer Station

Complete the three math games from PBS http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/math-games/

Crossing the RiverTangram GameStop the Pop

Crawling Zombie & Hand

Time the crawling zombie and the crawling hand. Measure how far each traveled. Convert each into miles per hour.
