SITUATIONCharlton Manor occupies a secluded setting atthe end of a ‘No Through Road’ being within ahidden area of land, close to the canal, andadjoined on one side by apple orchards.

Enjoying a south and westerly aspect, thehouse is within five miles of the centre ofTaunton, the County Town of Somerset,providing excellent recreational facilities, and alively shopping centre, including many of thewell known high street stores. Taunton is alsothe home of the county cricket ground.

The main line railway station provides anexcellent train service to Exeter, Bristol andLondon, the fast trains being scheduled toarrive at London (Paddington) in 1 hour and45 minutes. Taunton has become anincreasingly popular centre with its railwaylinks, and M5 motorway junction 25 providingfast easy access to Exeter, Bristol and theMidlands.

Taunton is also becoming a popular place tosettle with its good range of IndependentSchools including Taunton School, King’s andQueen’s Colleges, King’s Hall, and a littlefurther afield Millfield, Sherborne, Downsideand Wellington School and Blundells.

SPORTS AND RECREATIONRecreational interests are also at hand withmany golf clubs including Taunton Vale withinwalking distance of the house), Pickeridge alittle further away at Burnham on Sea, OakeWellington, Tiverton and Honiton. For thosewith equestrian interests there are variouspacks of both fox hounds and stag houndswhich hunt in the area. Regular race meetingsare held at Wincanton, Taunton and HaldenHill near Exeter. There are magnificent rangesof hills surrounding Taunton including theQuantocks, the Brendons and the Blackdownsall providing excellent riding and walkingcountryside. Wimbleball Lake, set in theBrendon Hills, provides good windsurfing andsailing water.
