What is the Creative Village? The Creative Village builds on the success of Orlando’s digital media industry by transforming the former site of the Amway Arena in Downtown Orlando into a 68-acre mixed-use, transit-oriented, urban infill neighborhood that will be home to leading higher education providers; high-tech, digital media and creative companies; and a diverse mix of students, employees and residents. Creative Village fosters a “live, work, learn and play” lifestyle in the heart of Downtown Orlando while bringing exciting opportunities to the Parramore area. Project Overview The City of Orlando entered into a public/private partnership with Creative Village Development, LLC to redevelop the project site. When complete, this high quality, sustainable neighborhood development will support a diverse and dynamic mix of uses including 900,000 – 1,000,000 square feet of office/creative space, 300,000 – 500,000 square feet of higher education space, 25,000 square feet of K-12 education space, 1,200 – 1,500 residential units, 125,000 – 150,000 square feet of retail/commercial space and 150 – 200 hotel rooms. Why is it important to me? The Creative Village means new jobs at a time when our community desperately needs them. The job creation study for the Creative Village estimates an additional 6,500 jobs in the local economy during the construction period. At buildout, there will be close to 5,000 permanent jobs, with more than 8,000 total Creative Village related jobs in the local economy. If I live in Parramore… The Creative Village will help support Parramore through targeted redevelopment activities designed to improve the neighborhood’s existing public recreational facilities, upgrade or rebuild the educational facilities in the Parramore neighborhood and introduce a new mix of affordable, attainable and market rate residential units to the community. In addition, the development includes plans for parks, green space and future neighborhood services such as a grocery, drug store, full service banking options and greater access to health care. If I live Downtown… The Creative Village will build on Downtown Orlando’s burgeoning digital media industry by providing a unique platform to attract businesses, universities, workers and students to a place that is tailor-made for their creative lifestyles. If I live in Orlando… The Creative Village will generate more than $10 million in annual property tax revenues to support City services. In addition, the Creative Village will have a daytime population of roughly 10,000 professionals, students, residents and visitors. The Creative Village will become a new destination for Central Floridians to enjoy as a new urban neighborhood anchored by education and serving the creative class. There will be new parks and green spaces as well as industry-leading sustainable development practices. Above all, having this unique platform to attract new businesses will diversify our economy, which benefits our entire region. Parramore and Creative Village visitors and residents will also have greater access to public transportation. The Creative Village is adjacent to LYNX Central Station which will be the primary station in Downtown Orlando for the future SunRail commuter rail line which is expected to begin service in 2014. Creative Village development plans also involve the expansion of the LYNX LYMMO bus circulator system which will serve Creative Village, Parramore and the west side of Downtown Orlando with service expected to begin in 2013. Proximity to SunRail and LYNX Central Station will provide Creative Village and Parramore with improved regional access to jobs, education, social services, government facilities, entertainment, civic and cultural assets and many other opportunities. Project Overview The City of Orlando entered into a public/private partnership with Creative Village Development, LLC to redevelop the project site.

March 2012

The Creative Village project is located in the City of Orlando’s District 5, Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum.

When is the demolition and what does it entail? The demolition contractor plans to implode the center portion of the Amway Arena on Sunday, March 25 at

approximately 7:30 a.m. using controlled explosives which will implode the building and roof inward. It will take approximately 10 to 15 seconds for the explosives to discharge. The implosion will entail a series of “bangs” similar to the loud percussion fireworks used in 4th of July displays. Depending on weather conditions, the explosions may be heard for several blocks. When the implosion is over, the four corners of the Arena and the columns that supported the roof system will still be standing. Those areas will be demolished conventionally by the contractor in the weeks to follow.

Implosion will be followed by a dust cloud as the building falls to the ground. Dust will be cleaned from the surrounding areas using water hoses and other appropriate methods.

Residents should expect road closures around the Arena site beginning at 5 a.m. and for several hours following on the date of the implosion.

What can I expect to see on the site over the next 30, 60, 90 days and year? Over the next 30 days… The contractor will continue working on interior demolition and preparation of the building for implosion in late March. Local residents will continue to see some activity outside the Amway Arena as the contractor continues interior demolition activities and prepares the building for implosion.

Over the next 60 to 90 days… Crews will sort and recycle demolition material. The building’s concrete will be crushed and stored on site for future use within the Creative Village development. Finally, the Amway Arena site will be graded and covered with a layer of soil and grass seed so that the finished product will be a fenced green space.

Over the next year… After the demolition of the Amway Arena is complete, construction will begin on the neighborhood street grid system as part of the first phase of ground-level improvements at the Creative Village and in the surrounding Parramore neighborhood. This work is being funded by a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery II (TIGER II) grant. The Creative Village TIGER II grant award represents an important vote of confidence in the project from the federal government.

The scope of work also involves the expansion of the LYNX LYMMO bus circulator system to serve Creative Village, Parramore and the west side of Downtown Orlando.
