wrote the label “sand” independently to

match the sand tray. Well done Amelia!

This week in Reception…

Our topic this term is

Family and Friends.

The Reception children

have been bringing in

photographs of their

families to share with

the class. We have

created our very own

family and friends wall and have been us-

ing some fantastic vocabulary to talk about

our families. Leo said “Now we can look at

the family wall if we miss them.”

In phonics this week we have learnt the

sounds: s, a, t and p. We have been on sound

hunts to find items beginning with these

sounds, both in school and also at home.

Zoe even woke her parents up early with a

shout of “t for tortoise!”

In maths this week we have

been counting up to 5 and

comparing numbers. We have

learnt to use the words “more”

and “fewer” to describe

amounts. We have been loving

using our number knowledge

to follow potion recipes!

We have been getting creative in our outside

area this week. We used paint brushes, rollers,

sponges and even squeegees to explore paints

and colours. We have been painting on a large

scale, using a cling film frame, which we

then washed off ourselves and used all over

again. Nai’la got stuck in with some finger

painting too!

As part of our Black History Month celebra-

tions this week we have been learning about

Tanzania. We read the story “We All Went on Sa-

fari” this week and learnt to count to 5 in

Swahili. Amelia has been perfecting counting

in Swahili and is ready to teach others!

In music this week we have been singing

nursery rhymes and joining in with repeated

refrains. We have also been singing our Silly

Soup song, which we have loved sharing with

our adults at home.

In PE we have been practising throwing and

catching a ball, and rolling a ball to our

partners. Sam and Elsie were the stars of the

show with excellent control.

We have had a wonderful week of learning!

Sumdog Lambeth Contest

For more information please see the link below:

https://www.mayorsfundforlondon.org.uk/lambeth-

southwark-summer-food-fun/

It's time to show off our mathematical prowess again! Today is the start of the Lambeth Sumdog Contest. 37 classes have been entered from across the borough, battling it out to answer as many maths questions correctly as they can.

The children can choose which game they play, while Sumdog automatically adapts it's questions. Each correct answer the children give counts toward their score.

During the contest period, students who are entered will see the contest activity on their homepage. Any games they play when this is showing will count towards their score. Each student who answers 100 questions in a contest will be rewarded with an item for their Sumdog house.

The contest ends on Thursday 15th October.

Good luck!

Talking Space

Promoting Children’s Well Being at St Jude's CE Primary School

Talking Space is the self-referral aspect of our emotional well being service in School. It is open to all children in Key Stage Two.

It is mainly an opportunity for children who may not be receiving one-to-one or group work support with Alison our Art Therapist.

The service gives the children access to Alison to talk about issues which may be of concern to them.

Children are encouraged to consider what issues may be concerning them and how the opportunity to talk about them and consider solutions may be helpful.

Children are given a 15 minute appointment in their lunch break.

Children are encouraged to fill in the appointment slips themselves. However some children also bring friends along to Talking Space.

No more than three children should attend one Talking Space appointment.

Secondary School Transfer

Families can go onto the school’s website for a virtual visit. Families can call to visit for a Covid secure personalised tour.
