Intellectual property (songs, documents, drawings, sound effects, melodies etc.) are automatically copyrighted – Creative Commons allows easy license sharing 6 easy to use and understand licenses for easy sharing of rights and content

Use of CC material is legal within their license frameworks The CC license is automatically “acquired” when downloading the sound/picture Overview over the 6 licenses: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/

What is protected by copyright law?

You can NOT use: Songs or melodies from musicians even if they have passed away e.g. Bach (because the interpretation used is licensed) Video or sound bites from known productions e.g. ending speech from “The Great Dictator” Images from Google Sound effects found online without CC license Samples

You CAN use: Sounds/pictures with CC licenses Sounds/compositions from friends etc. WITH proper legal consent of the composer Your own compositions/songs Sounds/sound effects from PURCHASED music/editing software (e.G. garageband, ableton, final cut)
