Registration at the world Heritage list

as Defined by UNESCO

UNESCO

In 1972 was adopted at UNESCO the commonly known Convention as the « World Heritage in the way to ensure their safe-keeping for futur generation ».

Considering the importance of the intangible cultural heritage as a mainspring of cultural diversity and a guarantee of sustainable development, as underscored in the UNESCO, in 2003, was adopted at the UNESCO, the commonly known Text of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

4 principals criteriors for the sites on the « natural Heritage list » are required:

-Exceptionnal natural beauty-Geological process-ecological and biological process-Important and threatened species

6 principals criteriors for the sites on the « intangible cultural Heritage list » are required:

To be included on the World Heritage List, sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet at least one out of ten selection criteria.

As the first recognized Marine World heritage the Great Barrier Reef in 1981 was abegining for marine ecosystems. Today 43 marines sites are inscribed. Today it’s 911 terrestrial and marines sites including 704 culturals and only 186 naturals and 27 mixed.

The Committee incorporated 213 elements between 2008 and 2010 at the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:

- Falconry, a living human heritage (various country) - The French gastronomic meal- Flamenco

At least four possibilites for UNESCO registration

• Create a steering committe. Will follow the case’s progress (have to be international for an international proposition)

• Identify the natural surrondings (which wave?)

• Inscribe/Verify that the proporties are on the Tentative List of the state parties

• Identify the right person on the states parties who will support the project

• Create a support comunity and obtain from them the consent letters (NGO, University, local authority, etc)

• Identify representative personalites to support the project

States Parties are countries which have adhered to the World Heritage Convention

Prerequisites for UNESCO registration

The opportunity of creating the platform for an international

collaboration

The opportunity of creating a platform for an international collaboration

Questions are:

-How can we define a collaboration using the work from each NGO – creation of a steering committee

-Which strategy can we define between each organization?

-On which list do we want to inscribe the waves and surfing

-If intangible , which States Parties ? And which organisation will be the local coordinator?

-If natural wich wave?

-If mixed: which site?
