IntroductionThis document is intended to assist LANDesk® Management Suite 8.7 (Management Suite) customers with the creation of database links in Oracle 10GR2 and Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7) for use with a LANDesk Management Suite 8.7 Rollup Core to rollup an Oracle database. Once the links have been created, refer to the product documentation in the Docs folder on the LANDesk Management Suite 8.7 CD or in the location the files were extracted from the Web download.

ScopeThis document covers the steps necessary to create a database link in Oracle 10GR2 or Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7) for use with the Rollup Core to rollup an Oracle database. This document only covers the information necessary to create the database links in preparation for installing the Management Suite Rollup Core Server.

AssumptionsThe reader should be familiar with Oracle 10GR2 or Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7). The Management Suite Core should already be installed and operational using an Oracle database. The Oracle database for the Rollup Core should already be setup.

Oracle Databases rolling to Oracle DatabasesThe following section describes the procedure for creating database links in Oracle 10GR2 or Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7) for rolling up an Oracle 10GR2 or Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7) database.

Creating Database Links in Oracle 10GR2How to create database links in Oracle 10GR2:

1. Add an entry in the TNSNAMES.ORA file on the Rollup Core’s Oracle server that points to the Core Servers database.

This can be accomplished by running Oracle Net Configuration Assistant on the Oracle server where the Rollup database is located.

2. Click the Local Net Service Name configuration radio button.

3. Click Next.

4. Click the Add radio button.

5. Click Next.

6. Type the name of the Core Server’s database in the Service Name field.

7. Click Next.

8 Click to highlight TCP.

9. Click Next.

10. Type the name of the Oracle server that contains the Core Server’s database in the Host name field.

11. Click the appropriate radio button to specify the port number used by the Core Servers Oracle database server.

12. Click Next.

13. Click the Yes, perform a test radio button.

14. Click Next.

15. Click the Change Login button.

16. Type the Oracle Username and Password for the Core Server’s database.

17. Click OK.

19. Type any name in the Net Service Name field.

27. Start Oracle’s Enterprise Manager Web Console for the Rollup database.

28. Enter the Username and Password for an Oracle user that has sufficient rights to create public database links.

The SYSTEM or SYS user should work.

29. Click Login.

31. Under Schema | Database Objects, click Database Links.

33. Type a unique name for this database link (for example, LINK_SERVER1) in the Name field.

34. Type the TNS name used in step 19 in the Net Service Name field.

35. Click to place a checkmark in the Public checkbox.

36. Click the Fixed User radio button.

37. Type the Oracle username for the Core Server’s database in the Username field.

38. Type the password for the Core Server’s database in the Password and Confirm Password fields.

39. Click OK.

40. The Update Message should read:Database Link PUBLIC.<LinkName> has been created successfully

41. Click the link for the newly created database link. For the purposes of this document it is LINK_SERVER1.REGRESS.RDBMS.DEV.US.COM.

43. If the link is functioning properly, it will return the “The Database Link is active.” message.

44. Click Logout.

Creating Database Links in Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7)How to create database links in Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7):

41. Type the TNS name used in step 21 in the Service Name field.
