Creating the contents page

DRAFT SKETCH

When I made this draft sketch, I was thinking carefully about how I wanted the contents page to be laid out. I even included details such as where page numbers and the editor’s note would be. I took some inspiration from the NME contents page, because the layout is very simple and structured.

1ST AND 2ND DRAFTS

These two drafts are quite different from each other. I used most of the same images, but the layouts and page sizes aren’t the same. The first one is clearly on an A4 page, but the second one is on A3. I personally preferred the second one, but audience feedback showed me that people preferred the first one, and that there was no clear ‘folding point’ for the second one. By taking these comments into consideration, I came up with my final version.

FINAL VERSION

This is my final version of the contents page. Evidently, I took a lot of elements from the second draft, but I moved things around so that it was clearly two A4 pages rather than one A3 page. The dashed line down the middle shows the fold and I highlighted the competition preview in a colour which clashed with the purple to make it stand out.
