CREATING CONSOLIDATED USER MENUS

Dynamics AX

People wear a number of different hats in the organization, and usually need to access a number of different modules within Dynamics AX. Also, people usually don’t need access to all of the menu items that are available within the individual modules.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the menu items that a user used on a daily basis were available in just one menu?

In this worked example we will show how you can easily create a consolidated user menu for your users with just the menu items that they needs.

Create A New

Menu

Rather than add each menu item individually, it’s easier to copy them from the other menu’s and delete the items that you don’t want.

To do this, just open up the source menu, and drop it over into your new menu.

Assign An Icon

To make the menu look a little more consistent with the other modules, we will now assign it an icon. We can link to a file, an embedded icon from AX, or to a resource file that we add ourselves.

Add Menu To The

Main Menu

Now we just need to add our menu to the main menu. To do this, find the main menu definition, and add a new Menu reference.

Note: We could just copy the menu over, but this way we can use the menu in a number of other menus, but only change it once.

Rearrange The

Menu Order

This is a menu that I will be using all of the time, so rather than have it at the bottom of the menu, I would like it at the top.

To do this, choose the Navigation Pane Options from the quick menu at the bottom of the navigation pane.
