So Why Don’t We?

One Major Problem…

35www.rackspace.com

EVERY SOCIAL NETWORK

HAS OWN IMAGE SIZE

REQUIREMENTS!!!!

36www.rackspace.com

• Twitter: 2:1 ratio, suggests a 1024 x 512 pixel image

• Twitter for iOS: actually different, a 1.75:1 ratio

• Facebook: suggests a 1200 x 630 pixel image

• Google+: posts images at 345 x 195 pixels

• LinkedIn: posts a thumbnail sized image at 180 x 110 pixels

This is just too much…

…But there’s hope!

• Numbers were crunched and found one size that will work for Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn

• 1600 pixels wide

• 800 pixels tall

• 160 pixel padding on the left and right borders

Blueprint for One Image to Rule Them All

41www.rackspace.com

• Place the most important elements in the middle

• This includes both graphics and text

• Don’t go crazy with the amount of text in the image

• The padding is “nonessential” elements on the borders that can be chopped off

• Images are important in social, so think about them in advance

• Ask the creative team to design them at:

– 1600 pixels wide

– 800 pixels tall

– 160 pixel padding on the left and right border

• Note that these image specs work for Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Linkedinbecause they display images in landscape mode

• This image size will not be optimal for Instagram (square) or Pinterest (portrait)
