    Stage One:

    The Exclusionary Organization.

    Is openly devoted to maintaining the majority group'sdominance and privilege.

    Manifested in the organization's mission andmembership criteria.

    Stage Two:

    "The Club".

    The Club allows a limited number of people fromother social identity groups into the organizationprovided that they have the "right" perspective andcredentials.

    Stage Three:

    "The Compliance Organization". The Compliance Organization usually attempts to change

    its social diversity profile by actively recruiting and hiringmore "non-majority" people at the bottom of the

    organization.

    When the exception is made to place a "non-majority"person in a line position it is important that this person bea "team player" and is usually 150% competent to do the

    job.

    There is a prevailing belief that "minority" people are beinggiven unfair advantage (reverse discrimination).

    Stage Four:

    "The Affirmative Action Organization".

    Actively recruiting and promoting members of those

    social groups typically denied access to theorganization.

    Plays an active role in supporting the growth anddevelopment of these new employees and initiating

    programs that increase their chances of success andmobility.

    Stage Five:

    "The Redefining Organization". The Redefining Organization begins to question the

    limitations of relying solely on one cultural perspective.

    It seeks to explore the significance and potentialbenefits of a multicultural workforce.

    The Redefining Organization searches for alternativemodes of organizing that guarantee the inclusion,participating, and empowerment of all its members.

    Stage Six:

    "The Multicultural Organization". Multicultural organization includes the members of

    diverse cultural and social groups as full participants,especially in decisions that shape the organization

    It follows through on broader external socialresponsibilities, including support of efforts to

    eliminate all forms of social oppression and to educateothers in multicultural perspectives.
