Which Skills to Include in Your Summary: From the example above, you might notice that there are several skills listed. Which skills should you include? Look at the job description or ad. In the qualifications section of the job description or ad, you'll find a list of skills that the employer is seeking.If you're not responding to a specific ad or don't quite know exactly what job you want, then take a few minutes to search job boards online. Look at 2-3 job ads for some jobs in industries you are considering and make a list of the common skills that appear in these ads.

Make sure that your summary includes the skills that they have listed. If you don't have all the skills, then only include the ones you do have.

Having the skills an employer is looking for displayed at the top of your resume, will give you the best chance of getting noticed by the recruiter.

Coursework: courses that will be important and useful for the positionCore competencies: are there requirements that are mandatory for the position that you should list

A list of skills that highlights why you are the ideal candidate for the job

A recent trend in business and marketing careers is to call the qualifications section core competencies

This section should clearly describe your skills and show an employer why you are capable of doing the job the qualifications can be changed and moved around in order of importance based on the job you are applying for

In your qualifications you stated skills in this section you can give a specific example of your accomplishments on the job such as increased sales, decreased costs, reduced errors if possible quantify your information with percentages, numbers, dollar figure, responsibility gained in a position or being chosen to lead a team

Set it up like this (see above) An example of a small change that will make a solid difference is (see above)

When you are writing descriptions for different positions do not repeat the same information twice if you answered the phones at one place you do not need to write that your answered them at 3 other places

If you have only a little work experience list your part-time, summer, internship, school projects, volunteer work and community work emphasize the skills you developed through these experiences even if they do not directly relate to your target jobThis demonstrates a positive working ability, initiative and potential for learning

What do your related experiences say about you? How do they help you get the position? It does not have to be something from the exact field. Maybe it shows off your ability to plan an event, be part of a team or complete tasks.

(Alternate headings: volunteer work, community service, certificates earned, activities, professional associations)

You can also have a related experience section which would include: Memberships, leadership (offices held), and awards

STOP: Write down an experience you have had related to your field or that shows your ability to work with others

Did you do a course project or write a paper that represents you well?

Ex: Developed and presented a market analysis of a Fortune 500 company using corporate documents, current events, stock market and global competitors

You can include an other section you can title this section based on what you are using it for

This section could also include licenses and certifications

Education I recommend that your education goes on your resume near the top as a college student or new graduate

If you are going to include special things you did in High School anywhere on your resume then include your HS education if you have been out of HS for 10 years or more it should be off

12REFERENCESREFERENCES:

Done on a separate page that has the same heading as your resumeName, title, company, address, phone number and email

Stay in contact with your references. If you have not been in touch for a few months or longer, connect with them before you use them as a reference.

A quick note on references:Your references should not be included on your resume they should be on a separate sheet with the same heading as your resume For your references you should have name, title, company, address, phone number, emailMake sure to get the ok from the reference to use them as a referenceIf you have not spoken to your reference for 2 years definitely reconnect an easily avoided mistake is a non-working number on a reference list and you would be surprised how often it happens
