Material Master Record – All the Inforamtion Related to material are created initially for References for all department in the Organization such as : store(inventory) , account, purchasing , sales etc.

Double Click on the above highlighted Transaction.

Below Screen - Initial Screen for Material Creation.

Material – We will leave it blank for the Internal Numbering Range. It will assigned automatically for the Industry and Material type selected.

So you can say , Based on the Industry Sector and material type Number Range are configured to be Picked Automatically.

Industry Sector - It is the Domain or area in which the material is used, should be used ,will be used, can be used , etc.

It depend on the Industry in which the SAP is Implemented and material will be Create to recognise the products based on purpose - sales , comsumable, purchase etc.

Below are the Listed Industry Sector for which material can be create in SAP.

Select one among the drop down option available.

Eg: Mechanical Engineering

Material Type :- it explains itself – type of material ( group of material with similar attributes).

Below are the available material type created in your system.

By seeing the above huge list – you can definitely say – N material type can be defined and used in SAP.

You can define your own material type as well and it is configuration.setting depends on the business type you are dealing with.

We will discuss it later.

For now, we will select – already defined material type .

Eg : Finished Goods

Change number – this is used to keep track of the Number of Changes done in any material master Record. You can say for each version of material – change number will be assigned.

It is an optional field. You need to enter it, If the client is using – Engineering Change management.(details please google it).

Material Number – Here it is an optional field.

As in – if you want to create new material by copying alredy existing material with exactly same or similar attribute.

Now, we have decided and entered – broad Information about material which we are going to create.

So hit enter or Continue button. You will get Pop up(dialog box) as below:-

It is the different classification/ view defined for any material – you can select views relevant for your material.

Select – first the basic view.

Below screen will appear.

You can see material number – 3594 has been assigned under – finished goods materials

It depends on the Client needs or the business function for which you are defining the material.

You can select as many as view you want to maintain.
