To effectively represent our case / switch statement in project 1 our protagonist, Kate, will evaluate the decisions she has made in life. Her apartment is an orderly, predictable ‘machine,’ resembling her boring life. She daydreams about the different lands she wishes to travel to and the interesting scenery she will encounter there. Also, she wonders if she can break out of her mechanical environment.

Script:

INTRO: Camera circles briefly around Aesthetica and then around the house. One of

the doors open, and the camera follows inside to where Kate is located.

Narrator (a man’s voice)The island is called Aesthetica. Where people from all different

places meet and live a simple life. Inside this house lives a girl named Kate and it is her story, her hopes, and her dreams

that you will get to know.

SCENE 1. BEDROOM – Day

The scene opens with Kate walking around her apartment surveying the items that surround her everyday life. She makes her way to the dining room. When she touches the metal rectangular door, the heavy slab revolves inward. She steps inside. Her eyes travel up from the tile on the floor, to the green walls, and then to the colorful chandelier in front of her. She touches the blue cube and the colors of the walls change to blue. She walks to the side room and gets teleported to the other rooms. As she is walking around she is thinking aloud.

Kate(to herself)

I feel trapped amongst these walls. I have yet to see anything that is out there, beyond this island. These shapes and colors make me feel claustrophobic. I wonder what else is out there. I’ve spent the last four years of my life living on this island and in this apartment. Where can I really go in this place?

My life is a series of simple decisions. Each day I choose what doors to open, what I wear, and where to go. But do I ever

really go anywhere? I’ve never crossed these waters to see what is beyond this land. Is there a more exciting world out there?

While Kate is thinking these thoughts, she sits down on the sofa. She slowly closes her eyes and her mind drifts away into a deep sleep.

Kate(to herself: speaking softly)

If only I could get the courage to leave this place. Imagine the places I could travel to. Oh, there are so many places out

there.

SCENE 3. Going to Paris (Second Life: Paris 1900)Camera captures the different scenes of Paris. It focuses on Kate in the café

before it fades out to the next scene.

Kate explores the city of Paris

Kate(to herself: speaking softly)

Oh the beauty of this city. There are so many things to see here. I could go to the Eiffel tower. I could learn how to dance like Parisians! See a show in Moulin Rouge. Or, I could simply live by the street, eat lunch everyday at the cafe, laugh about my life, and live a happy life as many other people do. (Pause) But maybe I would rather be somewhere else.

CUT TO BLACK :

Scene 4. An island on the beach (Second Life: Adventure Bay)Camera pans ocean and structures on land, Kate on raft

Kate(to herself: speaking softly)

Now, this is where I should go; live right by the water, with a hot tub overlooking the surf. No more bright blue, red, and

green colors, I could let loose every once in a while here. In the day I can surf the waves and at night I will watch the stars, or make some island drinks. I could sit by the fire that warms

the cool night air. Oh what a wonderful life that would be. . .simple choices with nothing to worry about.

What a wonderful winter land! There are tall, wondrous pine trees. There is so much snow, I can build a snowman. I can learn to ski and ride up to the top of the mountain and see the majestic mountain peaks. It would be nice!
