Introduction
For this Maker_Space Activity, you will be making a Spot the Difference Game. You will create
an A4 poster which you can print out at home or for use in libraries.
When you’ve finished your poster, share it with us on social media using #CPKmakerspace
What You Will Need
For this activity you will need:
• Adobe Photoshop
• An image to edit (digital or a physical one to scan in)
Optional extras:
• A camera or scanner (you can request a scanner in the Maker_Spaces)

Recommended Maker_Space Guides
On the Maker Space website you will find a selection of How To guides for Adobe photoshop.
If you’re stuck or not sure what things to try next, have a browse through the guides for
inspiration!

• How To Remove Items In Adobe Photoshop
Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Choose an Image for Your Game
You will need an image for your game. We recommend using a photograph or scanning in a
picture or drawing.
Tip: You can use a physical image if you wish! Simply use a camera to take a photograph of it or use one of the Maker_Space scanners to create a digital copy.
When you have an image to use (ideally a JPG or PNG file), make a second copy of it. We will
keep one as the original version while making differences in the second copy.
Step 2: Making Differences in The Image in Photoshop Tip: If you’re unsure how to do any of the following steps, please refer to the “Getting Started
With Adobe Photoshop” and “How To …” guides on the Maker_Space Website. Most of the
suggested changes have How To guides available.
Open up your second copy of the image in Photoshop.
We will be making lots of changes to this file. You can of course change anything you like. Here
are some suggestions:
• Change the colour of an item. For example, someone’s eyes or the colour of a car.
• Duplicate an item. For example, if there’s a bird in the sky, copy it to make multiples of
them.
4
• Remove an item.
• Flip something in the image. For example, if it’s a photo with a dog in it, flip the dog to
face the other way.
• Change some text. For this you’ll need to remove the original text using the various
removal/healing tools in Photoshop, then place text over the top in a similar font to the
original. If it’s hand-written, try using a brush instead and draw in the new text.
• Add another image or item into your picture. For example, you could add someone to
a photograph who wasn’t there at the time or add scenery or household objects in the
background.
Once you’re happy with the image changes, save your file. It will probably save as a PSD
(Photoshop Document) file, so you will need to use the Export option to export it as a JPG file.
Tip: If you’re unsure how to export a file, take a look at the Getting Started with Adobe
Photoshop Guide on the Maker_Space Website.
Step 3: Make the Poster
In Photoshop, create a new file and use one of the Document Templates to create a blank A4
file. This will be portrait orientation by default. Depending on the aspect-ratio of your Spot the
Difference image, you may wish to change it to be landscape orientation.
Next, bring your two images (the original and the one with differences) into this document. You
can use the same “Add another image or item into your picture” method we used earlier.
Now, simply position the 2 images as you wish. You can also add a title using the Text tool.
When you’ve finished laying out your poster, you can Save As a JPG or PNG file you can easily
share or print. You might also want to save a copy of your Photoshop file (PSD) so that you can
use this as a template for future projects.
What next? When you’ve finished your poster, share it with us on social media using #CPKmakerspace.
