O’Neill Deputy Principal’ s Repor t (Rel) - Owen Dalkeith As we count down the last few days before the holidays it is a great time to reflect on the great achievements of our staff and students. Our school has always prided itself on providing life opportunities for all within our school. This semester students have successfully engaged in the many activities that a large school like ours can provide. Looking at our calendar for Term 3 it is already full of great learning opportunities for our students. Our website now has been updated to include the Crawford Public School - Student Welfare Policy, Anti-Racism Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy. School policy documents are constantly reviewed and amended each year to ensure they progress with the changing expectations of our school community. Please take the time to read each policy so you are aware of how our school deals with welfare issues. This week we farewell two long serving members of staff. Karen McMahon and Natalie Marr. As previously advised, Ms McMahon was successful in gaining a teacher/librarian position at Blackett Public School. Ms McMahon has significant skills that will enable her to make a difference in this specialised area of education. Mrs Marr was successful in gaining the Assistant Principal Special Education position at Bennett Road Public School. Again, Mrs Marr has gained the skills and experience at Crawford Public School to lead her new school in this challenging and demanding role. Both Karen and Natalie have made a significant contribution to improving the life opportunities of the children at Crawford Public School. Our sincere thanks for your dedication commitment and professionalism. I will be on Long Service Leave at the beginning of Term 3. • YEAR 6 REPORT

Term 2 is drawing to a close and we have plentyto be proud of in Year 6. We have representedour school in a variety of ways. We have shownat all times we can be safe, respectful learnersand most of all we have engaged in the learningtaking place in our classrooms.

Year 6 leaders on June 1 and 2 attended theColebee Leadership Camp with 41 students fromDoonside High, Doonside Public and MarayongSouth Public School. The students learnt duringtheir time away there is more to being a leaderthan wearing a badge and running an assembly. They learnt to work together with others in a co-operative and friendly manner, to lead by exampleand how to find the solution to the problem andto be responsible for other people while showingempathy and compassion. All this was achievedthrough team building exercises, hands onactivities and heaps of fun.

Our auditions were held for It’s Academic onChannel 7, the final decision was a difficult onefor those entrusted with the task as there weresome many worthy candidates. However, thedecision was made and 17 students have beenselected to represent the school at the filming onAugust 16 2011.

Our sporting greats have shown they not onlyhave skills in their chosen sport but also havedemonstrated sportsmanship to all they face inthe sporting arena.

All the Year 6 teachers would like to commendthe students for the amazing effort they have putinto completing their research assignments onNatural Disasters. We have seen houses of allshapes and sizes that have been designed withthe strict purpose of surviving one of thenumerous natural disasters that may strike aroundthe world.

Thank you to all those involved in making Term2 so successful and to Year 6 for your great workthis term. Remember to be safe throughout thebreak. See you next term.

Mrs Taylor - Assistant Principal (Rel) Year 6

    SPORTS NEWS

This term has been a very productive andenjoyable one as far as sport at Crawford isconcerned. We had a very successful CrossCountry that saw many of our students qualifyfor the District carnival. From there we had 5students go on to the Regional carnival with someexcellent results. As these are updated on the DETPSSA website I will be sure to pass them on toeverybody.

We have had many students trial to representSydney West in Netball, Rugby League andRugby Union. Our Rugby League teams havecompeted in both the Greg Alexander Shield andPanther Trophy. We had one of our senior teamsmake it to within one game of the Greg AlexanderFinals and our Under 10 team made it to the finalof their Panther Trophy division which is awonderful effort. All students at each of thesecarnivals were tremendous and the parents whosupported them equally so. Our Football (Soccer)players were lucky enough to be invited to theCottee’s Five-a-Side Gala Day. Miss Moulakassaid it was a great day and again the studentswere outstanding with wonderful support fromparents.

Our regular PSSA competitions on Fridayafternoons have unfortunately missed a coupleof rounds due to wet weather but our teamscontinue to represent Crawford outstandingly.Personally I would like to thank the RugbyLeague players. Over the course of the term youhave really begun to gel as a team and it has beenextremely enjoyable to take you along each week.Thank you. I know the other coaches feel thesame about their respective sports. I’d also liketo thank the parents who attend games, providetransport on occasion and support our students. It’s fantastic to have you there.

We have also been lucky enough to have the ARL,AFL, ARU and Penrith Basketball visit ourgrounds and conduct skills clinics and games forour K-4. Next term Years 3 and 4 will beparticipating in the Rugby in the Park initiativewhich will be followed in Term 4 for K-2 andYears 5 and 6. We will also be having ourAthletics Carnival next term as well as the RoyceSimmons Rugby League Knockout.
