Candy Yocum, Activities Coordinator We regret to announce Candy Yocum, our Activi-ties Coordinator will no longer be with us as of March 3, 2020. Candy has been with us for over 3 years and she is credited with the growing success of the Activities Program. We want to thank Candy for her creativity, her undeniable energy and the overall aspect of trying new and different programs for the seniors. Candy will be missed! We wish her the best of luck at her new professional endeavor with the Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Com-merce. We are currently in the process of interviewing pro-spective candidates to fill Candy’s position. Until we hire another candidate to fill Candy’s position,

Activities Coordinator activities during the month of March will be limited. We appreciate your patience while we search for the most qualified applicant to con-tinue our Activities Program.

Understanding Ohio’s new driver licenses & state ID cards

A message from Director McElroy and Ohio BMV Reg-

istrar Charlie Norman

As always, you’ll apply for a new or replacement

card at your local Deputy Registrar license agency.

However, once you’ve completed your applica-

tion, you will receive your new card in the mail in

about 10 business days.

There are also two kinds of cards to choose from: a

standard card and a compliant card.

The standard card is similar to previous license

and ID cards. To get one, you must show your

Deputy Registrar license agency proof of your full

legal name, date of birth, social security number,

address, and in some cases, your legal right to be

in the United States.

The compliant card also serves as a national ID

card. Effective Oct. 1, 2020, you will need a com-

pliant card to access certain federal buildings and

facilities. You will also need a compliant card or a

U.S. Passport to board any commercial airline

flight, regardless of the destination.

A compliant card requires more documentation

than the standard card. In addition to your full le-

gal name, date of birth, social security number,

and legal status, you will need to show two docu-

ments from different sources showing your current

Ohio street address. Your current U.S. Passport (if

you have one) or birth certificate and social securi-

ty card can provide proof of your name, date of

birth, and social security number. Examples of

acceptable documents to prove your address in-

clude: Bank statements; credit card statements;

current or previous year tax return documents;

renter, homeowner, life, or automobile insurance

policies; utility bills; and more.

Other requirements and documents may apply. Visit the Ohio BMV website for a complete list of acceptable documents.

The two types of cards cost the same and continue to be good for four years. If your current card does not expire until after October 2020, you may need to renew early to get a compliant card if you plan on traveling by air or accessing federal buildings.

The U.S. Census Bureau is already looking for job applicants to work the 2020 Census. We are cur-rently hiring through May of 2020 for temporary assignments, most lasting 8-10 weeks.

A Census Population and Housing is taken in the United States every 10 years. A Decennial Census is required by the U. S. Constitution to determine the number of seats each state will have in the House of Representatives for each state.

Census positions provide the perfect opportunity to earn extra income while helping your community. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine your state’s representation in Congress, as well as how certain funds are spent for schools, hospitals, roads, and more. This is your chance to play a part in history and help ensure everyone in your com-munity is counted!

In addition to supporting your community, census jobs offer great pay every week, flexible hours, and paid training. Applying is easy. Go to https://2020census.gov/jobs to learn more, then click on Apply Now. Potential applicants can also call 1-855-JOB-2020 (562-2020) or use the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339 for TTY/ASCII to learn more or for assistance.

People can apply for 2020 Census work if they are at least 18 years old, a U. S. Citizen, and if they have a valid Social Security number and email ad-dress. Males born after December 31, 1959, must also be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption. As part of the ap-

For Your Information

plication process, applicants will be asked ques-tions related to their education, work, and other experiences.

Potential employees must pass a criminal back-ground check and review of criminal records (including fingerprinting). Once these steps are completed, potential employees will receive infor-mation about paid training.

Employees should have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, unless public transportation is readily available. Employees should also have access to an Internet-connected computer (to com-plete the training process).

Work schedules depend on individual positions. Generally, hours for field positions are flexible. Some positions require work during the day and other positions require evening and weekend work interviewing the public. In addition, supervisory positions require employees to be available for cer-tain day, evening, and/or weekend shifts. The Census Bureau is committed to hiring Census Workers to work in their own communities.

Employees are paid weekly and can expect to re-ceive their first paycheck approximately 10-14 days after their first day of work. Field employees will be reimbursed for authorized work expenses, mileage while conducting the 2020 Census work. Contact: Tanya Simpson Recruiting Manager 614-974-5313

Page 10: CRAWFORD COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGINGG March 2020 200 …crawfordcountyaging.com/wp-content/uploads/March-2020.pdfthe Area Agency on Aging at 800-860-5799, Mon-day - Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00

· Marriage

· Divorce or annulment

· You or your spouse stopping working or reduc-ing the number of hours you work

· Involuntary loss of income-producing property due to a disaster, disease, fraud, or other cir-cumstances

· Loss of pension

· Receipt of settlement payment from a current or former employer due to the employer’s closure or bankruptcy

You can make the case that Social Security used outdated or incorrect information when calculating your IRMAA if, for example, you:

· Filed an amended tax return with the IRS

· Have a more recent tax return that shows you are receiving a lower income than previously reported

To request a new initial determination, submit a Medicare IRMAA Life-Changing Event form or schedule an appointment with Social Security. You will need to provide documentation of either your correct income or of the life-changing event that caused your income to decrease.

If you do not qualify to request a new initial deter-mination, but you still disagree with Social Securi-ty’s IRMAA decision, you have the right to appeal. Appealing an IRMAA decision is also referred to as requesting a reconsideration. Keep in mind that there are no strict timeframes in which Social Secu-rity must respond to a reconsideration request. Contact the Social Security Administration to learn how to file this request.

—Marci

How can I appeal an IRMAA?

Dear Marci, I received a notice that I need to pay an

Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) in addition to my Part B premium, but I don’t believe I should have to pay it. What can I do? -Woodie (Topeka, KS)

Dear Woodie, The Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjust-ment Amount is an amount you may pay in addi-tion to your Part B premium and/or Part D pre-mium if your income is above a certain level. The Social Security Administration (SSA) sets income brackets that determine your (or you and your spouse’s) IRMAA. SSA determines if you owe an IRMAA based on the income you reported on your IRS tax returns two years prior, meaning two years before the year that you started paying IRMAA. The income that counts is the adjusted gross income you reported plus other forms of tax-exempt income.

If Social Security determines that you should pay an IRMAA, they will mail you a notice called an initial determination. This notice should include information on how to request a new initial deter-mination. A new initial determination is a revised decision that Social Security makes regarding your IRMAA. You can request that Social Securi-ty revisit its decision if you have experienced a life-changing event that caused an income decrease, or it you think the income information Social Se-curity used to determine your IRMAA was incor-rect or outdated.

Social Security considers any of the following situ-ations to be life-changing events:

· The death of a spouse
