Attention: 4-H Club Leaders
It’s time to get your pictures and stories together for the 4-H week tabloid.
Please collect the best pictures of 2012 4-H activities and write a story or sum-mary of your club highlights this past year. The newspaper does an excellent job of covering the fair, so think of ad-ditional events and activities your club
has done through-out the year to sub-mit. Please send them to Tracy at
[email protected] by Sept. 20.

Bread in a Bag
Supplies:
2 cups white flour 1 cup whole wheat flour
3 tablespoons powdered milk 3 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt
1 package Rapid Rise yeast 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 cup hot water (125 to 130 degrees F)
Extra flour to use during kneading process
What to do:
Combine white flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and powdered milk in a 1‐gallon heavy duty Ziploc freezer bag.
Squeeze upper part of bag to force out the air. Shake and work bag with fingers to blend ingredients. Add hot wa‐ter and oil to dry ingredients. Reseal bag. Mix by working bag with fingers until the dough is completely mixed and pulls away from the bag.
On floured surface, knead dough 5 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Put dough back into bag and let it rest 10 minutes. If working in teams, divide dough in half and shape. Let rise until double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack or dish towels.
Time to Plan for New 4-H Year
We want good things to happen in our 4-H clubs. But good things only happen if we take the time and make the effort to carefully plan our 4-H club’s early program.
In his book, If You Don’t Know Where You are Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else, Dr. Da-vid Campbell says, if you want something good to happen, make room for tomorrow.”
Simple observations of –H clubs have shown that where families are excited about 4-H, where members and adults willingly volunteer to work and where members are eager to join, good planning has been the key to success.
A plan is like a road map, it helps us pick the right road to get to our club’s goal. A good program will:
Provide a role for each member, leader and parent
Meet the needs of each member, leader and parent
Share responsibilities among all members, leaders and parents
Inspire a balanced club program between learning, work and fun
Provide for better communication
Help with cooperation between members, parents and leaders
Avoid calendar conflicts
Award “A Pat-on-the-Back” awards to as many as possible each meeting.
