Welcome Everyone No matter what your past or present status is in the Catholic Church, your current family or marital status, your past or current religious affiliation, your personal history, age, background or ethnicity, you are invited, accepted and most welcome at St. Ferdinand Parish. We hope Christ will bring fullness into your life, and that we provide you with information and spiritual support.
Post Summer Challenges With any luck, summer delights will continue a while past last weekend’s Labor Day: refreshing recreation (with maybe an occasional swim) or enjoyable relaxation on the deck (with tasty outdoor grilling). Truth is, for some of us, this year’s Labor Day came way too early. With many schools back in session already, mealtimes and driving schedules needed readjustment to coordinate youth sports with adult commitments. Some religious education and parish programs resumed, too. No surprise, then, that this weekend’s scriptures sound a little like post-summer challenges. Wisdom reminds us that believers in God can never be content with “timid deliberations” and “unsure plans.” Paul challenges friend and follower Philemon to “let the good you do be voluntary.” Jesus instructs “great crowds” traveling with him—including us—on three things necessary for all true disciples to accomplish. On this early autumn weekend, our scriptures describe disciples’ lifelong labors. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

A Wedding Prayer
Parish Mission Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church is a large, vibrant parish that has a tradition of serving God’s people with the warmth of a small parish. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we prayerfully seek to serve God by the way we worship, celebrate the sacraments, witness the Gospel, and serve one another. We are committed to live our Christian life as a community of hospitality, spiritual enrichment, and service through works of compassion, mercy, and evangelization. We are called to proclaim, teach and model the good news of Jesus Christ. We pledge our time, talent, and treasures for the fulfillment of our parish mission.
Born to Eternal Life Please pray for the soul and
family of: Regis Haefner, father of Jim Haefner.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
And it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.
Gift cards are sold in the Nursery after all Masses and at the Parish Office
during the week.

Sessions begin September 17 and we meet every Tuesday from 7:30-9:30 pm in the Holy Family Room. Ministry Fair Next Weekend Serving in the church is something honorable and exciting. Please come to the St. Ferdinand Parish Ministry Fair on Saturday, September 14, from 5:00-7:30 pm and Sunday, September 15, from 9:00 am-1:30 pm in Oldenski Hall. Meet members of the wonderful ministries and organizations at St. Ferdinand Parish and learn about their activities and good works. This will help you know what ministry or organization best fits your spiritual and social gifts of time and talent. Free hot dogs and snacks are available on Saturday, and donuts will be offered on Sunday — along with door prizes and a 50/50 raffle!
These are some of the Blessings we experience when serving others: Serving others allows us to discover and develop our spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 12: The church is made up of people with different skills and abilities. Together we create something beautiful.
Serving others allows us to experience miracles. In John 2, Jesus was at a wedding and the couple was running out of wine for its guests. He tells the servants to fill several big jars to the brim. When they served the water to the guests, it was wine! The guests never knew what happened; the servants were the ones who witnessed the miracle. The same is true for us when we serve.
Serving others helps us to be more like Jesus. We shift our focus off ourselves and onto others. We begin to see others as Jesus sees them. See Matthew 25:40.
Serving others surrounds us with other Christians who can help us follow Jesus. When we’re working side by side with other people, a bond inevitably forms. This was part of God’s plan for how the church is supposed to work. That’s why Hebrews 10:24-25 instructs us to encourage one another.
Serving others increases our faith. We begin to look for doors He’s opened rather than pushing our way through closed doors See Ephesians 3:20.
Serving others allows us to experience God’s presence in new ways. We find God’s presence when we encourage others and they find healing. It’s the reason so many people who go on mission trips say they come home feeling like they got more than they gave.
Serving others is good for your soul. Studies have shown that volunteering is so good for the mind and body that it can ease symptoms of stress and depression. Tapping into our gifts and passions builds self-confidence, energy, and strength. Serving others can also be the best distraction from our own worries.
Join Us for Our Kickoff! Exciting things are happening with our youth ministry! St. Ferdinand’s Youth Group is combining with the youth ministry efforts of our grouping partners St. Gregory and Holy Redeemer to create one expanded youth group: CROSSWALK Youth Ministry. To celebrate this new, expanded ministry, we will hold a two-night kickoff event. On September 18 at 7:00 pm, we will cruise through an informational and fun night, Journey to Paradise, for all 6-12th grade students
and their families within our grouping in St. Gregory’s Bergman Event Center (gym). Then on Sunday, September 22, our Paradise theme continues with kickoff events at St. Ferdinand and Holy Redeemer. Ours will be in Oldenski Hall for 7th-12th grade students from 6:00-8:00 pm. Holy Redeemer will host 6-12th grade students the same day, starting at 5:30 pm. St. Ferdinand’s on-site 6th grade students will celebrate when their classes start on September 23 and 24. At all these events, we will have food, fun and faith.
We welcome your questions and ideas as we begin this new chapter. Feel free to contact Andrea Wheeler, [email protected], Beth Gavaghan, [email protected], or Diego Araujo, [email protected].
