Crain’s Academy began as a series of open enrollment programs. It has since grown to offer custom leadership development through single and multi-day experiential sessions customized to your organization’s workforce and needs.

CUSTOM CASE STUDY #1

BACKGROUND The organization is facing a series of c-suite successions over the next 12- to 18-months. The next tier of executives need to be ready to step up their leadership game, poised for greater responsibility and prepared for potential promotions.

GOALSDesign a comprehensive program for a group of director-level graduates of a High Potential Program (HPP) to continue the established momentum across departments and functions. Specific areas of interest include trust, confidence building, accountability and community. Group needs to function as one team.

PROGRAM APPROACH1. Focus on leadership development using a strengths-based approach—understanding what drives each

participant, their distinctive contributions to their workplace and helping each to learn how to apply their strengths in the context of the organization and the communities they serve.

2. Build tight-knit, self-sustaining communities, a key measure for any leadership development experience. These communities are cultivated through facilitated peer conversations. Personal and professional growth happens best in a trust-based and safe environment that invites aspirational thinking.

STRUCTUREQuarterly half-day sessions followed by social networking. Sessions hosted at a variety of venues to keep things fresh. Field trips and group activities layered in to foster community.

OUTCOMEThe intention is to continue to offer each new group of HPP grads this year-long program. Future programs will incorporate components that bring past classes (alums) into the mix to establish a growing community of senior leaders for the company.

The experience our clients has is paramount to us, and because of our expertise we are able to co-create and tailor programming in real-time. This is one of the reasons multi-session programs are so impactful. Participants have the space to inquire, contemplate, iterate and build trust, all key leadership skills crucial to a great leadership development program.

CUSTOM CASE STUDY #2

BACKGROUND Organization would like to build on improving the leadership skills of their new and emerging managers. Many were promoted from an individual contributor to a people leader because of their competence in their particular role. However, with no consistent leadership training, a gap exists in the skills needed to lead efficiently and effectively.

PROGRAM APPROACHA highly interactive program that incorporates the communication and leadership skills needed on a daily basis to successfully accomplish company goals through others. Through the discovery and design process with leaders at companies we identify the content most important to this program and consistent to core competencies. Consideration also given to offer a consistent framework for additional leadership development programs.

STRUCTUREFour full day sessions hosted off-site with pre-work, assessments, case studies and scenarios relevant to the managers built into the program. The assessments allow participants the ability to confirm what they are doing well and focus on expectations and areas to develop. We include reinforcement into the training to foster behavioral change. Program covers essential leadership topics to build skills and increase understanding of how leadership impacts employee engagement, productivity and team effectiveness.

TOPICS

Our programs are highly interactive, with built in group activities, discussion, interaction, feedback, projects and reinforcement. Crain’s Academy can incorporate business leader faculty into session. These facilitators are current business leaders with a wide range of job titles, and have a broad understanding of various industries and teach from their own business experience. They have a strong desire to share their knowledge with the next group of business leaders.

BACKGROUND Company is launching a new corporate strategy and the finance team needs to understand the connection of what they do daily in relation to the overall corporate mission, vision and strategy. Team Build aligns finance’s strategy and long-term plan to the overall enterprise strategy. Day one focus is on the team relationship, dynamics and functionality, while day two is more tactical.

GOALSAs a result of having completed this program, team participants will be able to:

1. Describe characteristics of a high performing team

2. Identify strategies to manage and enhance effective communication inside and beyond the team

3. State how their team fits into the big picture of the company’s strategy, mission, vision and goals

STRUCTUREA strong team is essential to driving organizational growth and success in today’s rapidly changing world. Business leaders rely on having high-functioning teams that work together toward common goals and across functions. Team Build is an interactive 1-day program that emphasizes how to build and sustain an effective team. Team participates in an escape room activity, as part of the program, to further cement collaboration, trust and enjoy a fun bonding experience.
