    YEAR 9 SCIENCE FIELD TRIP

Last week our Year 9s spent a day studying out of the classroom. Their time was shared between the South Canterbury Museum studying “Creatures in our Backyards”, and collecting data from the stream on Mr

Andy Palmer's farm. We are very grateful to the educators at the Museum and from Waterwatch, for helping us run this field trip. Thank you also to Mr Palmer for allowing us to explore stream life on his property.

    HOUSE COMPETITION

In order to support the ladies of the Pacific and Third world countries, Ballantynes are running a “Collect a Bra” scheme. At Craighead we are running an on-going competition for the House that collects the most bras. The Global Citizen's are also helping with this initiative. At the end of each month the bras that have been deposited in the House baskets will be counted and the points allocated to each House. These points go towards the total for the term and will help decide who will win the House Picture for the term then finally the Overall House Points for the year. We look forward to your support so please ask around and help us to help someone else.

The Year 12 Biology classes arrived at Mt Cook Aoraki National Park on a gloriously sunny day, perfect for identifying and studying plants found on three differently aged moraines in the Hooker Valley, to show the ‘succession’ pattern. With transect lines, lux meters, identification charts and thermometers at the ready, students were able to gather data.

The students, teachers (Mrs McLean, Mrs Woods, Ms Poletti) and Mr Chris Gifkins, our bus driver and fount of all knowledge, stayed at the Unwin Alpine Club Lodge; a superb venue with welcoming managers who were wonderful to us all.

    YEAR 12 BIOLOGY TRIP
