Default Page

Default page is a web page that will be displayed if you do not specify a web page’s filename E.g. http://www.ucalgary.ca contains no web

page’s filename, but we are presented a web page

On our web server the default page should have the filename “index.html” or “index.htm”

Make a Default Page

Save your start page under the name “index.html” or “index.htm” Note: On many computers the extensions of web

page files are not displayed. So you may see only an “index” file

Put it to your public_html folder Visit your web site by the address

http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~ituser/and you will see the start page

Set Permissions

You can set permissions on your folders to allow/disallow others to view your web pages Use the “set permission” button on the WebDisk

disconnect window Or use the “Manage your account” link on IT

homepage and then go to WebDisk sharing utility Give an “Internet World Read Privilege” to

allow others to view your web page
