The Harvest Festival was celebrated at

St Mary’S ChurCh in WaleS PriMary SChool

All the classes at St. Mary's Church in Wales Primary School Ruabon,

prepared for the Harvest Festival at St.Mary's Church by learning

Harvest songs and poems and year five actually made the Harvest loaf!

The service was attended and enjoyed by all the pupils and many

parents and friends.

This year the pupils collected money for Water Aid which amounted to

£228.00.

Year Five had done a design and technology project where they learnt

how wheat is transformed into flour; and the bread making process

from start to finish. They had great fun tasting breads from around

the world and they made a tally chart to find the class’s favourite

bread. They enjoyed designing their own bread and they were very

proud of the Harvest loaf!

Reception class learnt where

vegetables come from and made a

delicious vegetable soup! Thank you to Helen Probin for this write-up and beautiful photos sent in on behalf of the school.

Bowel Cancer Support North Wales was set up in April 2014 by three people with colorectal

cancer. Whilst the care from Doctors and Nurses was excellent, through diagnosis and

treatment we missed an opportunity to talk with fellow patients about our experiences so we

decided to create the first self-help group for colorectal cancer in North Wales.

From that small beginning we have grown from a membership of 8 to a current total of 25, 17

of whom are regular attendees. Our information leaflet is given to every newly-diagnosed

patient by the colorectal team and it is encouraging to see new membership is steadily

increasing, particularly patients at an early stage of diagnosis and/or treatment.

In November Gavin and Susan Mascall will be raising money for Bowel Cancer Support North

Wales to help support the amazing work they do. They will be will trekking from Lukla upward

to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, 3,440 metres (11,290 ft), following the valley of the

Dudh Kosi river. It takes about two days to reach the village, which is a central hub of the area.

They will then trek another two days to Dingboche, 4,260 metres (13,980 ft) before resting for

another day for further acclimatization. Another two days will take them to Everest Base Camp

via Gorakshep and the flat field below Kala Patthar, 5,545 metres (18,192 ft).

The Bowel Cancer Support group meets between 7-9pm on the first Thursday of every month in the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Wrexham. LL13 8LP. The meetings involve people who have been affected by bowel cancer and those who understand your experiences. They have talks from visiting professionals and discussions on all aspects of bowel cancer on a regular basis. They provide opportunities to talk freely about mutual needs and concerns in an informal and confidential setting and offer friendship to all, patients, carers, friends and family affected by bowel cancer – organising social activities in addition to the regular meetings. Gavin and Susan are aiming to raise £200.00 to ensure that this service can continue to help those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

!! Medi Alert !!

The Ruabon Medical Centre has been alerted by a patient

who has received a number of phone calls from salesmen,

giving the impression that they work for the NHS.

They introduce themselves as “Your Health Service

Manager” (or something similar) and ask a number of

questions about the person’s health and medication.

After a long conversation it becomes apparent they are not

working for the NHS; but are trying to sell some kind of

patient medication. These sales people appear to have a

good medical knowledge base.

!! Please be aware - This is a Scam !!

The Practice Manager of the Medical Centre will ensure

that a warning message is displayed on the new TV in the

waiting room when it is installed at the end of this month.

7

Friends of Ruabon will hold their meeting at the Bridge

End Inn (courtesy of Gillian and Peter McGivern) on

Saturday 4th November between 10am and 12noon.

Items on the agenda will include:

“Ysgol Rhiwabon” A talk by Melanie Ferron-Evans (head

teacher);

Park Gates;

Ruabon Railway Station;

Autumn Festival;

Frost Fayre;

Storage;

Local Businesses.

EVERYONE is welcome to attend these informal

meetings, either to become involved or just to enjoy

the enthusiasm and ‘CAN DO’ discussions!
