Providing opportunities for young Canadians to learn and use French E-NEWS April 2012 Issue 73 CPF PEI OPEN HOUSE/French Second Language Day CPF PEI held an open house as part of French Celebration Week activities. Stations were set up to display the projects and programs that are administered by us. We were pleased to see Anastasia DesRoches stop by. Anastasia was the co- ordinator for this years’ events for St. Thomas Aquin Society. Miles Turnbull, Interim Dean of Education, Christian Gallant and Tanya Gallant (RDEÉ) and many more stopped in the help us celebrate French Second Language Day with our open house. We had some prize draws (thank you Anastasia for the Monopoly Game and the CD). Prize winners were: Christian gallant, Tanya Gallant, Heather Taweel, Stacy Dunn, Monica Rafuse, Marie Lynn Bedard and Miles Turnbull. I would like to thank you for the experience to go to Encounters with Canada. It was the best week of my life. I made TONS of new friends all over the country. We got to watch "Question Period" which I found super interesting. I got to visit the art gallery and the museum of civilization which were definitely highlights of my trip. I didn't want to leave at the end of the week, I even miss the uncomfortable, plastic beds! The best part of this experience was all the great friends I made, and the amazing memories and laughs I will cherish forever! Thank you so much! Maria Dalton * Maria Dalton won this opportunity in the French Student Excellence Award program that we have, she was the Grade 10 winner and attends Summerside Intermediate. Wednesday May 2, 2012 is the CPF PEI Annual general Meeting. To be held at the Havilland Club on Havilland Street in Charlottetown. Members and guest are encouraged to attend. Please call Gail at 368-3703 to register.

Volunteering is part of our identity as Canadians – we value civic participation and embrace a spirit of community. The tremendous efforts of our 12.5 million volunteers help make Canada a vibrant, safe place to call home. Across the coun-try, Canadians are getting involved and leading positive change in a variety of ways, all of them vital – from quick bursts of mobile micro volunteering on smartphones to front-line disaster relief efforts overseas. The work of volunteers is es-sential to maintaining healthy, dynamic communities at home and around the world. National Volunteer Week is all about taking time to recognize the incredible contributions of Canada’s volunteers and letting them know how much their efforts are appreciated. We want to thanks the individual volunteers across Canada who dedicate themselves to improving their communities. Volunteers have a passion for getting involved, they take to support the causes and organizations that are important to them, and they make an in communities across Canada and around the globe. For many of us, March 31st marked the end of the 2011-2012 fiscal year. It is a hectic, stressful time for many trying to complete projects and finish reports. Maybe we all need to slow down a bit.
