The Diaper Depot at Central is continuing to reach people in need inour community. On March 19, 108 families attended and 171 bags of 50diapers each were handed out. Families were surveyed to discover otherneeds that Central may be able to help meet. To connect the familieswith our church, flyers of Holy Week services at Central were alsodistributed.

There are many ways you can help the Diaper Depot at Centralcontinue to be successful:

Prayer – Pray that we are reaching the neediest in the community. Give of your time – Help is needed on the day of the Diaper Depot. You can be a greeter, registrar, distributor, or visitor. If you can help on Depot day, contact Sue Stahl at 717.658.6107or [email protected]. Also, help is needed on the Thursday before Depot Day when the dia-

pers are sorted and packed. This process takes an hour or two, depending on the number of help-ers. If you are interested, contact Dottie Bush at 717.264.8130 or [email protected] – Diapers or money. Money is being solicited from the community, but help from thecongregation is still needed.

The next Diaper Depot at Central is on April 16. Think about helping and contact Sue or Dottie. Do-nate some diapers or money. Pray for the Diaper Depot and the families it serves. You are alwayswelcome to come and observe the Diaper Depot in action.

FROM THE ORGAN BENCH

The Noontime Musical Meditation which has been happeningon Wednesdays at noon during Lent and Advent for the pasttwo years has just finished its current series with five pro-

grams involving Pat McNamee, Valerie Merriman, Dr. J. Fred-erick Davison, Patricia Divelbiss, Anita Rae Smith, and Helen

Wingert. Taking everything into consideration we have beenvery pleased with the series.

At Worship Music meetings we decided to do a survey to get a better idea ofthe preferences of our audiences --type of music, time of day, etc. So far 41people have turned in survey forms to us. We gained some first -time attendees as well asmany who have come to a lot of the programs since this began. Most seemed to like thevariety of instrumental/voice, etc. with organ that we have been doing. Classical musicand hymn arrangements were high on the type of music preference lists.

We will hopefully continue this series again. If you would like more detailedresults of the survey or have any comments, suggestions, etc. please contact HelenWingert [email protected] 717 -375 -4397 home phone or 717 -491 -0081 cell phone. Thanks so much for your support in attending these programs.

Bank Building Use Opportunity

Last year the Session created a Building Task Force to develop a recommendation about thefuture of the bank building owned by Central. When that task force was unable to develop arecommendation, the Session realized the question of the bank building needed to bediscerned within the larger context of a vision for the future of Central.

Accordingly, the Session created a Vision Task Force to lead the congregation in discerningGod’s vision, and the Session last night approved the Strategic Plan born of that process. This plan will be presented to the congregation on April 10 th.

Three weeks ago, after most of the work on the Strategic Plan was complete, an opportunityemerged for a use for the bank building – to house the Boys & Girls Club (BGC), which iscurrently operating in a Franklin County Housing Authority building. This building is located approximately 5 -6 blocks west of the church, in an area commonly referred to as“the Projects”. They currently serve approximately 30 children during the school year and

up to 80 during the summer. Shortly after our initial conversations with the BGC, Lowescontacted the BGC regarding a Heroes Program grant which provides significant financialsupport in supplies and manpower for renovating the bank building.

As a first step in the work of discerning whether it is God’s purpose for Central to proceedwith this proposal, the Session approved the following motion at a called meeting on March 13 th:

Allow the VTF to work with BGC, contingent upon the approval of the Lowe’s HeroProgram Allow a June 1 st occupancy date for the grant application

Allow for the pursuance of an A -3 Occupancy classification for non - profit status (whichshould remove the use of the building from the local tax role) Agreed a feasibility study would be conducted to estimate renovation costs prior toentering an agreement with BGC

At this moment, the most critical element of the proposal is the Lowe’s grant. Lowe’s willannounce their grant award by late April. Additionally, there are still many other questionsto be answered. Session has appointed a steering team to gather the necessary informationand it will report back to the Session as soon as possible.

The Session will keep the congregation informed as we learn more. In the meantime, weask for your prayers for discernment as to whether God is calling Central PresbyterianChurch to this mission.

Respectfully Submitted, Scott A. Wiley VTF Chair
