Haciendo el Via Crucis acompañamosa Jesús en su camino hacia la entregasuprema.

1. Jesús es condenado.Jesús es condenado por ser fiel a su

misión y predicar un Reino de justicia.Recordemos a todos aquellos a quienesnuestro mundo condena a la muerte o auna vida indigna.

Padre, no abandones nuestro mundo alpoder que, condenando a tu Hijo, mantienela opresión y la dominación de tus hijos.Danos fe para seguir a Jesús en un mundodonde reine tu amor.

2. Jesús es cargado con la cruz.Jesús es azotado hasta desangrarse, con

una corona de espinas en su cabeza y cargado con lacruz. Pero el cristiano ve en esa cruz el amor con queDios nos ama. Pensamos en las personas a quienes hatocado en suerte una cruz pesada e injusta. Con ellosestá Jesús.

Sabes bien, Señor, que sobran cruces en el mundo y queestán mal repartidas: son los pobres los más aplastados.Concédenos sabiduría para no rechazar ni falsear la cruz deJesús. Danos fortaleza y amor para entrar en la lucha contra elsufrimiento humano.

3. Jesús cae por primera vez.Al ver lo que se le viene encima, Jesús siente temor,

tristeza y angustia. Sus discípulos le fallan y se duermen.Pensamos en las personas que viven abandonadas de

todos, sin encontrar solidaridad ni ayuda.Nos creaste para vivir como hermanos. Pero la soledad,

el abandono y la falta de unidad nos llevan a las puertas dela muerte. Por tu Hijo, que probó la angustia del abandono,aumenta en nuestros corazones el amor.

4. Jesús encuentra a su madre.Cuando se encuentran los ojos de María con los de

Jesús, el dolor atraviesa el corazón de María. Pensamosen las madres y padres de familia que ven sufrir a sus

1. Jesus is condemned.Jesus is condemned because he has

been faithful to his mission, because hehas preached a reign of justice. Let usremember all those our world condemnsto death or to an unjust life.

Father, do not abandon our world to thepower that condemned your son andmaintains the oppression and domination ofyour children. Give us faith to follow Jesusinto a world where your love reigns.

2. Jesus carries his cross.Jesus is scourged and bleeding to death,

crowned with thorns and burdened with a cross. In thatcross Christians see the love with which God loves us.Let us think of those people who have been burdenedwith a heavy and unjust cross. Jesus is with them.

There are too many crosses in this world, Lord, and theyare badly distributed; poor people are the ones who carrythe heavier burden. Give us the wisdom not to reject thecross of Jesus. Give us the strength to struggle againsthuman suffering.

3. Jesus falls for the first time.When he sees what is coming to him, Jesus feels fear,

sadness, and anguish. His disciples fail him and fallasleep. Let us think of all the people who live forgotten,alone, and helpless, forsaken by all.

You created us to live as brothers and sisters. Butloneliness, abandonment, and lack of unity lead us to thegates of death. Through your son, who knew the anguish ofbeing forsaken, increase the love in our hearts.

4. Jesus meets his mother.When her eyes encounter those of Jesus, pain pierces

Mary’s heart. Let us think of the mothers and fatherswho see their children suffer and are not able to doanything. They find their hope in Mary.

5. El Cirineo lleva la cruz.Los soldados cargan con la cruz al

primero que encuentran. Simón creíaestar llevando la cruz de un condenado yestaba ayudando al mismo Dios.Pensamos en las veces en las que se nospide que ayudemos a llevar la cruz anuestros hermanos.

Padre, que deseas que todosseamos verdaderamente libres,no permitas que unas personasdominen a otras por la fuerza.Libéranos de la ambición depoder y haznos amigos yservidores unos de otros.

6. Verónica consuela aJesús.

Limpiar el rostro ensangrentado deJesús era limpiar la imagenensangrentada de Dios. Una mujerdecidida lo hizo. En los rostrosdesfigurados por el dolor, encontramosla mejor imagen de Dios. ¿Somoscapaces, como Verónica, de limpiarrostros ensangrentados?

Padre, danos fe verdadera para descubriry limpiar tu imagen en los rostros de losemigrantes, de los obreros, de los heridos porel dolor y la injusticia. Haz de tu Iglesia unaVerónica que se arriesga por ti.

7. Jesús cae por segunda vez.Abandonado de todos, Jesús recurre al

Padre. Oscuros presagios de muerterondan hoy la vida de muchas personasque no llegan a ver claro su futuro. Conlos que son golpeados duramente y noven cumplirse sus ansias de justicia estáJesús. Con ellos debemos estar.

Padre, enséñanos a orar como tu Hijo enGetsemaní, para que con los caídos yhumillados aprendamos a compartir el dolory el sufrimiento, y que al final se cumpla tuvoluntad de vida.

8. Jesús habla a las mujeres.Las mujeres de Jerusalén lloran ante el

preso que ha sido condenado a muerte:Jesús. Pero Jesús les pide que se miren así mismas. Las palabras de Jesús a lasmujeres son una amenaza, porque el que

5. The Cyrenean carries the cross.Simon thought he was carrying the

cross of a condemned man, and he washelping God. Let us think of the timeswe are asked to help our brothers andsisters to carry the cross.

Father, you want all of us to be trulyfree. Do not allow some people to dominate

others by force. Free us fromthe ambition to have power,and make us friends andservants of one another.

6. Veronica wipesJesus’ face.

To wipe the bloodied faceof Jesus was to wipe the

bloodied image of God. A courageouswoman did it. In faces disfigured bypain, exploitation, and injustice, we findthe best image of God.

Father, give us faith to discover andrestore your image in the faces ofimmigrants, workers, and those who arewounded by pain and injustice. Make yourchurch into a new Veronica capable oftaking risks to clean your disfigured image.

7. Jesus falls for the second time.Abandoned by everyone, Jesus goes to

the Father. Dark omens of death are nearthe lives of many people who can’t seetheir future clearly. Jesus is with thosewho are beaten and do not see theirhunger for justice fulfilled. We have tobe with them to be with Jesus.

Father, teach us to pray like Jesus inGethsemane, so that we learn to share thepain and sorrow of all the wounded andfallen people of the earth until your will oflove and life is accomplished.

8. Jesus speaks to the women.The women of Jerusalem cry before the

prisoner who has been condemned todeath. But Jesus asks them to look atthemselves. Jesus’ words to the womenare at once a threat and a call toconversion because it is still possible tochange, to accept God’s word, and to livein solidarity striving to build the reign ofGod in this world.

Father, we ask you to open our hearts to

2. Sea sincero sobre sus propiasluchas y dificultades.

3. Dé buen ejemplo evitando lamurmuración y los chismes.

4. Escuche los problemas desus hijos.

5. Muestre verdadero interésen los sueños, deseos, ypreocupaciones de sus hijos.

6. Enseñe a sus hijos el valorde actos de bondad yamabilidad con otros.

7. Invite a sus hijos aparticipar en proyectos deservicio en la comunidad.

8. Ayude a sus hijos a estarpresentes a amigos oconocidos que han perdidoa alguien querido.

9. Ayude a sus hijos a volversea Dios en momentos detragedia y dolor.

10. Enseñe a sus hijos elrespeto por los cuerpos,creados por Dios condignidad.

11. Ayude a sus hijos a entenderel valor del perdón.

1. Encourage your children tostand up for those beingpicked on at school.

2. Be honest with yourchildren about your ownstruggles.

3. Set a good example bybeing alert to gossip.

4. Listen to your children’sproblems.

5. Show a real interest in yourchildren’s concerns,dreams, and desires.

6. Teach your children thevalue of “random” acts ofkindness.

7. Involve your children insocial projects in thecommunity.

8. Help your children reachout to friends who haveexperienced a loss.

9. Help your children turn toGod when tragedy strikes.

10. Teach your children thatbodies are worthy ofrespect because they arecreated by God.

11. Help your childrenunderstand the value offorgiveness.

12. Teach your children aboutthe different races andpeoples of the world.

13. As a family, make a choiceto take on difficult servicefor others.

14. Challenge yourself andyour family on yourtendencies toward negativethinking.

15. Find reasons for joy andhope in the life of yourfamily.

rechaza la gracia busca su propia muerte,y también son una llamada a laconversión: aún es posible cambiar,aceptar la Palabra de Dios y esforzarsepor construir desde ya el Reino de Dios .

Padre, te pedimos que abras nuestroscorazones a tu palabra para que, liberadosdel egoísmo, aprendamos a vivirsolidariamente con nuestros hermanos, loshombres y mujeres de nuestro mundo.

9. Jesús cae.La sangre de Jesús se mezcla en la

tierra con la de tanta sangreinocente derramada en elpasado y en el presente. ADios le importa la sangreinocente, causada por elpecado de la persona que sehace dios, esclava de suegoísmo y asesina de sushermanos. La tierra regadade sangre florecerá ennueva vida.

La sangre derramada de Jesús y detantos hermanos nuestros clama ante ti,Padre. Te pedimos que nadie más sudesangre, que nadie derrame la sangre de suhermano, que nadie desangre a su pueblo.

10. Jesús es desnudado.Desnudar en público a alguien es

degradarlo totalmente, quitarle sudignidad. Eso le hacen a Jesús. Y eso sesigue haciendo hoy a tantos pueblos ypersonas a quienes les despojan de todolo que tienen. Pero la esperanza está enJesús, quien, despojado de todo, puso suconfianza únicamente en Dios.

En los empobrecidos del mundoencontramos a tu Hijo, despojado de todo.Crea, Padre, en los que no tienen nada,personas nuevas y generosas. Enséñanos acompartir en solidaridad lo que tenemos.

11. Jesús es clavado en la cruz.A Jesús lo clavan de pies y manos. Pero

Jesús es más fuerte, en su debilidad, quelos que lo condenan. Desde la cruz escapaz de pedir al Padre por sus verdugos.Pide para ellos el perdón. Es la victoriadel torturado sobre los torturadores.

Padre, tu Hijo fue torturado. Hoy muchosotros hijos tuyos son torturados de mil formasdiversas. Te pedimos por los torturados y porsus torturadores. Reconcilia a los que sonhermanos y destierra de este mundo latortura.

your word so that, freed from selfishness,we may learn to live in solidarity with ourbrothers and sisters in this world.

9. Jesus falls for the third time.The blood of Jesus is mixed on the

ground with so much innocent bloodshed in the past and in the present. Godcares about innocent blood caused by thesin of the person who wants to be god—slave of his or her own selfishness andmurderer of his or her brothers andsisters. The earth watered by blood will

bloom again.The blood shed by Jesus

and so many brothers andsisters cries out to you,Father. We pray: Let no oneelse shed the blood of abrother or a sister; let no oneelse bleed your people todeath.

10. Jesus is stripped.To strip someone in public means to

degrade that person, to take away thatperson’s dignity. That is what they do toJesus. And that continues to be done toso many who are deprived of everythingthey have. Jesus, deprived of everything,placed his trust in God alone. God is onhis side.

We find your son, stripped of everything,among the impoverished people of theworld. Father, in those who possessnothing, create new, generous, and lovingpersons, detached from material things.Teach us to share in solidarity what wehave.

11. Jesus is nailed to the cross.Jesus is nailed through his hands and

feet. But Jesus is stronger in hisweakness than those who condemn him.From the cross he is capable of askingfor forgiveness for his torturers. This is avictory of mercy.

Father, your son was tortured. Many ofyour children are tortured today in manyways. With our hearts full of pain we prayfor the tortured people and for theirtorturers. Reconcile your children, who arebrothers and sisters.

12. Jesus dies on the cross.Jesus of Nazareth, the great prophet

who announced the new life of the reignof God, is executed outside the city. It is

innocent blood shedin the past and in

12. Jesús muere en la cruz.Jesús de Nazaret, el gran profeta que anunciaba la vida

nueva del Reino de Dios, muere ejecutado fuera de laciudad. En este momento es cuando se manifiesta lamáxima fidelidad de Jesús: sacrifica su vida porlo que siempre creyó y anunció. Muereconfiando en su Padre, Dios de amor. Losseguidores de Jesús no podemos desesperar. Enla cruz de Jesús encontramos esperanza.

Padre, creemos que Jesús crucificado es tu Hijo, elSalvador. Por El sabemos que tu fuerza es el amorque sufre en los que sufren. Con El queremos lucharcontra el sufrimiento de este mundo.

13. Jesús es bajado de la cruz.La madre de Jesús coge en sus brazos el

cuerpo de su hijo muerto. Tiene su esperanzapuesta en Dios. De esa carne muerta, Dios harábrotar nueva vida. De nuevo María tiene que dara luz una criatura nueva en el dolor y la esperanza. ComoMaría, la comunidad cristiana acoge a todas las personas ylas invita a comenzar de un modo nuevo.

Padre, en María has dado un nuevo modelo a tu Iglesia. Danosla fe de María, para acoger en el seno de la Iglesia a todos los quesufren y hacer con ellos una nueva familia.

14. Jesús es sepultado.El sepulcro es la última soledad. Los que mataron a Jesús

creían que, al enterrar su cuerpo, borraban totalmente sumemoria. Pero el sepulcro de Jesús se va a convertir enfuente de una vida nueva. Jesús va a ser la semilla querompe la tierra y sale al exterior. La vida de Jesús está enlas manos de Dios, como la vida de todos sus hijos.

Padre, tú hiciste del sepulcro un lugar de paso hacia laplenitud de la vida. Haz que esta tierra acoja en paz a nuestrosmuertos y que sea fecunda en esperanza y vida.

15. Jesús resucita.Jesús ya no está en el sepulcro. Ha resucitado lo que

había sido crucificado. Dios está de parte del crucificado yno de los que lo mataron. La muerte de Jesús tiene sentido,porque tiene sentido entregarse al servicio de los demás. DeDios podemos esperar resucitar también nosotros a unanueva vida, a la liberación total.

Te damos gracias, Padre, por la resurrección de tu Hijo.Auméntanos el amor y la fe para entregarnos al servicio de losque sufren.

at this moment that Jesus’ supreme faithfulness is manifest:He sacrifices his life for what he believed and announced.He dies trusting his Father, the God of love, who isstronger than death.

Father, we believe that the crucified Jesus is yourson, our savior. Through him we know that yourstrength is the love that suffers with those whosuffer. With Jesus we want to fight against thesorrow that makes us suffer in this world.

13. Jesus is taken down from the cross.Jesus’ mother welcomes the body of her dead

son in her arms. She has placed her trust inGod; from that dead flesh, God will recreatenew life. Once again, Mary has to give birth to anew life in pain and hope. Like Mary, theChristian community welcomes all persons.

Father, in Mary you have given us a model forthe church. Give us Mary’s faith to welcome into

the church all those who suffer and to create with them a newfamily.

14. Jesus is laid in the tomb.The tomb is the ultimate loneliness. Those who killed

Jesus believed that once his body was buried his memorywould be totally erased. But Jesus will be the seed that,buried, breaks through the ground and blooms forth. Jesus’life is in God’s hands, just as the lives of all God’s children.

Father, you made Jesus’ tomb a place of transition to fullnessof life. Make this earth welcome the dead in peace and befruitful in hope and life for your people.

15. Jesus rises from the dead.Jesus is not in the tomb anymore. God chooses the side

of the crucified and not that of those who killed him. Jesus’death has meaning. Being at the service of others hasmeaning. We expect to be raised by God to a new life.

We thank you, Father, for the Resurrection of your crucifiedson. Through him we ask you to increase in us our love andfaith so that we can give ourselves to the service of those whosuffer, and rise to a new life.
