Staffing Update: Our district’s student count day took place last week. This is a day in which the district looks at total building student count and determines whether a school loses or gains more teaching positions. Based on our numbers, we have not been granted additional staff. Currently, our third grades are too high in student numbers and we are making adjustments to assist those third grade teachers as “Class Size Reduction” applies to grades K-3, not 4th and 5th. We will be having one of our full-time teachers, Mrs. Perkins, step in to co-teach in the afternoons for all 4 third grade rooms.

Miler’s News: Come join Milers club on Monday, September 28 th at 8:30 am . Milers entrance is through the bike rack gates, gates open at 8:25 am and all fitness begins on the field. We hope to see you there!

Elite Edge Sports: Mr. Hale will be starting our sports classes after school beginning with football on September 28th. Classes are open to students ages 8 to 11 and the cost is $100.00. Registration flyers came home last week and sign-ups are under way. Classes are conducted in the PE Room and the outside campus and run from 3:30-4:30 pm. Parents/Guardians will pick up students from the Bus Loading Zone.

The David M. Cox Elementary Cub Mentors R-For Us Program was established to provide students with individual attention on social and academic support.  The mentors serve as role models for students by demonstrating values such as responsibility, dependability, punctuality, and reliability.  They will help students understand the importance of education to their personal and future goals.

Mentor: One who provides one to one support and is a friend and a role model, boosts a child’s self-esteem, enhances a child’s educational experience.

Mentoring: Meeting regularly over an extended period of time with the goal of enabling a special bond of mutual commitment based on the development of respect, communication and improvement of academic and personal growth

Expected Outcomes: Enhance self-esteem and the students’ positive educational experience.

The mentoring program is new in our school so if you are interested in becoming a mentor, or have any questions about this program, please call the front office. You may also contact Dr. Clayman via email: [email protected]. Or our Academic Guidance Counselor, Ms. Deihl via email: [email protected].
