They have a commercial Simmental cow herd of 70 and they have recently put up a new feedlot facility for 200 head. All feedlot cattle are certified under the Ontario Corn Fed Beef Program. This information session is an opportunity to hear from a number of dynamic speakers on a variety of topics related to the beef industry and specifically to the cow-calf sector. Enright Cattle Company is family owned and operated by Darold and Kara Enright, along with their son Corben and daughter Evelyn. The farm, which is located just south of Tweed, raises purebred black and red Simmental cattle. They have formed a value chain with Kara’s parent’s, Don and Chris Langevin, as well as a local abattoir. This allows them to finish their own calves and some purchased feeders which are direct marketed to restaurants and consumers. All livestock are raised on a natural diet without the use of added hormones and a complete traceability system has been implemented. Lynn farms 400 acres of corn, grain and hay which also includes 160 acres of pasture. Their cow herd consists of 85 purebred Angus cows. They market their cattle through a local auction market and direct to consumers. Lanny and Catharine Huff have always had a passion for fine wine and Prince Edward County. Both were born and raised in the county, coming from families with deep county roots, thus when vineyards started to pop up in 2001 they thought this would be an ideal opportunity to harmonize these passions and have since grown Huff Estates into an exciting, unique county destination. Nathan and Sara Beth Krentz and their three children along with Sara Beth’s parents, Bill and Sharon Hopkins, run a cow- calf operation with 85 purebred Hereford cows. Approximately half of their cows are bred Hereford using some of the top genetics in the breed - building their show/sale and replacement female herd. The remaining half are bred using registered Black Angus bulls for an F1 black baldie calf. These calves are sold as stockers or breeding females (replacement or embryo recipients). This lunch will expand your tastebuds and your knowledge on the versatility of Ontario beef! A unique meal will be prepared by award-winning chef, Michael Hoy, who is also a teacher and international culinary tour leader, and is the founder of Chef Michael Hoy Culinary, a hospitality company located in Prince Edward County.
