Scholarship Committee,

I am currently a sophomore at UND, though it is my first year at the school and in the theatre department. I made the decision last year to transfer from UW-Madison to UND, mostly in consideration of the cost of college and my decision to pursue theatre performance as a career. UND has been a great learning environment for me thus far, and the aid provided by this scholarship would help to provide the resources necessary to ensure I have the best opportunity to learn.

My parents have been incredible about helping me pay for college. I dont qualify for much state financial aid, so scraping together money for college has been tough for my family. My parents are still paying on their student loans, so they have been very generous and understanding in their support of me. Their help can only go so far, though, with two other children to support. My dad recently had his hours cut in half, so finding the money has been that much harder.

Having the support of financial assistance has been a great asset to my education. Im currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and I know that this has a lot to do with the fact that I do receive so much help. I can spend more time studying and engaging in productions rather than working to raise money for books, tuition, and other costs. Being in productions also limits time for work, which further limits options. Im so passionate about theatre, and I want to make sure that I can make the most of my education, so I can be prepared when I go out into the audition pool. Not only that, I want to make sure that I can explore all of my areas of interest while still in college, so I can be sure that I have a vision for my career moving forward.

I feel very fortunate to have found myself in a strong and supportive theatre department, where I feel a drive to focus so much effort and energy into growing as a performer. This scholarship would help to insure that I can continue to work and grow through this program. Thank you for your consideration.
