6O3 ACHTUNGTRENNUNG(saO)6-ACHTUNGTRENNUNG(OCH3)6Ln2ACHTUNGTRENNUNG(CH3OH)4ACHTUNGTRENNUNG(H2O)2] (Ln=La, Tb, saOH2 = sali-cylaldoxime) by a two-step self-assembly process fromMnCl2, saOH2, and Ln ACHTUNGTRENNUNG(NO3)3 under basic conditions inmethanol. Both complexes display single-molecule magnetproperties, with the latter exhibiting one of the highestknown single-molecule-magnet (SMM) energy gaps: 103 K.

Cluster CompoundsIn their Full Paper on page 9612 ff. , H. Oshio et al. describethe synthesis of two cyanide-bridged, high-spin clusters withcore structures of [Fe8Ni6] and [Fe8Co6]. The iron–nickelcluster behaves as a single-molecule magnet, whereas theiron–cobalt system exhibits electron-transfer-coupled spintransitions as a result of external stimuli.

Energy Up-ConversionThe field of energy up-conversion by low-power incoherentexcitation is an emerging technology with potential applica-tions in a variety of fields of interest to photochemists, suchas sensitization of photochemical reactions by low-energyphotons, wavelength shifting for spectroscopy, but also to awider audience, in areas, such as sensitization of photovolta-ics.
