2009 - 2010

President’s Message: As the end of the 2009-2010 season peeks over the horizon, I want to take this opportunity to “Thank” all of you – Players, Parents, Coaches, Fans, Sponsors and Board Members - for your support, hard work, and your dedication to LBYH. Creating a fun and memorable experience is what LBYH is all about:

“The biggest thing we get out of it is seeing the kids smile. And hopefully we will also see that the lessons we're teaching - not only the fundamentals of hockey, but also the life values - are sinking in.” Bobby Orr

We had some awesome games this season, many victories and

some heart-breaking losses, but most importantly, we had fun playing the greatest game on earth! Players – “Thank You” for the privilege of watching you persevere and progress over the season. You all gained new skills -- some of you could barely stand on skates last September and now you’re wheeling and dealing on the ice! I hope you all made some great memories and friendships that will last long beyond youth hockey! Parents – “Thank You” for getting up before dark on those cold winter mornings to get your kids to the games, tying the little ones’ skates, cheering the teams on, and biting your tongue when the ref made that bad call. Not all parents are willing to make the sacrifices that you have made! Coaches – “Thank You” does say not enough. No other youth sport requires a coach to do what you folks do. Some of you coached more than one team this season, and some of you coached three teams! Many of you were on the ice at least 75 times with your teams for practices not to mention the time you spent preparing for and coaching games. “Nice Job!” Sponsors – “Thank You” for your continued financial support to LBYH. It means a lot our players and families and helps keep the tuition manageable.

In-House Hockey

This was another year which saw some changes in the way In-House hockey is played. We went from ten teams to eight. After working with a ten-team league for some years, I had forgotten how much easier an eight-team league is to run. But the extra hour gave us time to run a weekly cross-ice session aimed mostly at 3rd and 2nd liners. The sessions, run by the Clinic Czar, Pat Hunt, fit nicely with Clinic. One of the things we have learned is that the bumpers we thought we needed are no longer necessary. We still drag them out for the more formal all-team cross-ice sessions, but a stray puck or two really doesn’t matter. Once again we had a lot of help without which In-House would founder. Continuing support from Curt was invaluable as was all the effort it takes to put teams on the ice with registration, equipment, referees, timekeepers, and Web site work. So Mark, Kent, Jane, Kim, Linda, and many others—we owe you big time. The coaches this year were absolutely the best. There were the usual tournament questions, but the regular season was the smoothest ever and the tournament games were nothing short of fantastic. There was some excellent hockey played with all but a couple of games during the tournament turning into real nail-biters. Special thanks to Leo Casey, once again a major force in making things go smoothly. We hope to see you all again next year. And remember—the only real measures of this season will be how much you learned and how much fun you had. We have already forgotten who won the tournament.
