Marriage Equality Vision
ECCLESIASTICAL LIBERATION - Not just about “legal” and “civil” rights but about being freed from religious and social oppression.
EXCRUCIATING GRACE - As the church and society continue to cluster and become polarized by theology and ideology, conflict will intensify and the need for graciousness will increase.
GENERATIONAL CONVICTION - While great strides have been made, future generations must continue to fight the fight for equality in society and the church.

Generational Obstacles
Leverage: generational assumptions as a reason for change, excuse for calcification or distraction from other issues.
“For young people this is a non-issue so . . .”
“For older folks this is a big change, so . . .”
“The problem with young/old people . . .”
Leadership: transitions, power and who “gets” to lead.
Response: to what end and at what expense?
Boomers = Fight here, fight now.
GenX’ers = Leave, it’s not worth fighting for.
Millennials, GenY/Z and Digital Natives = Don’t rock the boat, let’s fight but just not here.

LeadershipAge and aging must be embraced.
New leadership must be scouted and sought out.
Longevity must no longer be the primary currency of acceptance.
New leadership must be nurtured, encouraged and trusted.
New leadership must be placed in contexts for “success.”
New roles must be embraced with joy or old roles must be given up without resentment.

ResponseBecause of culture shifts, new strategies must not only be sought out and historic ones given worth, but multiplicity of responses must valued and utilized;

Leverage
Generations must engage in the nuanced and difficult dance of seeking raw understanding of one another’s lives.
