Courses and Section Reports
Reports Overview As the Program Coordinator you have the ability to run reports that provide information about student
progress and performance.
The reports listed below can be run by users with the Program Coordinator role at any time during the
school year. This group of reports provides information about student performance within the
sections they are enrolled in.
Report Name Description
Assessments Objectives Performance by Section Displays student performance on each objective
within a course.
Institutional Student Performance Export Provides an overview of student progress and
performance in each enrolled course.
Section Activity Report Displays a detailed record of work a student has
completed in each course over a 7 day period.
Section Log Entry Report Displays the number of log entries created for a
student in each course.
Section with Courses Summary Report Displays information to help track total number
of lessons completed for a course.
Section with Details by Grade Book Weight Type
Report
Displays the percentage of each assessment type
the student has completed for the year.
Section with Details by Grade Book Weight Type

Displays the percentage of each assessment type
the student has completed for a semester.

Accessing Reports in Connexus® All of these reports can be accessed from your Employee Home Page in Connexus.
From the Employee Home Page
1. Select the Reports link from the Miscellaneous Tools area on the right.
2. Select the desired report from the list of reports.

*Please note that all reports will open in Microsoft® Excel®. For the best experience,
make sure you have a current version of Excel installed on your computer.
Assessments Objectives Performance by Section The Assessments Objectives Performance by Section report displays how each student in a section is performing on the objectives within that course. This report is available for Language Arts, Math, and Science courses.
Input Criteria
Your school will show as the default location. Check the box next to Sub-locations in the blue area.
Next to the School Year field, use the drop-down to select the current school year.
Next to the Students field, it is recommended to leave the selection at “Include only Students who are currently active.” However, if you needed to see previous performance for a student that has been withdrawn, you would want to select the option to “Include all Students.”
Next to the Courses field, use the drop-down arrow to select the course you wish to view data for.
Leave the Objective Group field to “All.”

Courses and Section Reports
Select Generate Export and a link will appear to gain access to your report.
Select the link and you will be prompted to either open or save your report. The spreadsheet will open
to the Overview tab. Select the Data tab from the bottom to view the report.
Report Details
Each student in the course will have their own row of data in the report. Columns A through J provide basic identification information.
Table: User and Course Information Fields
Data Description
idWebuser The user’s unique identification number within Connexus.
Last Name The student’s last name as entered in Connexus.
First Name The student’s first name as entered in Connexus.
Location This field will display the name of your program.
Final Grade The grade level the student is enrolled in.
Current Homeroom
Teacher
The name of the teacher responsible for the Advisory or Homeroom section.
Some programs do not utilize Homeroom/Advisory sections and N/A will be
displayed.
Section Name This is the name of the course section as seen by the student.
User Start Date The date the student was set to In Progress in the course. Often this will be
the same as the program start date. Students cannot submit course
assessments until they are In Progress.

User Finish Date The date the term ends for the student and by which coursework must be
completed.
Course Name The name of the course as it appears within the Connexus system. This name
is used for internal organizational purposes.
Starting in column K, it is helpful to look at the column headings in groups of 3. In the example below, there are 114 assessment items that measure the Cluster: Craft and Structure. The student has completed 6 of the 114 items and has scored 50% proficiency on those 6 items.

Data Description
Row 1-
Cluster/Objective
The top row of the report will list the name of the objective cluster or the
specific objective.
Assigned The number of assessment items in the course that measure the cluster or
objective.
Completed The number of assessment items the student has completed in the course
thus far.
Score How the student has performed on the completed items for that cluster or
objective.

Viewing Tips
It may be helpful to color code the three columns that show mastery for each objective. One way to do so is to select the three columns (ex. N, O, P) and open the Cell Styles menu from the Home Excel toolbar. Then select the highlight or style color that will make this group stand out.
Recommendations
This report can be used to identify which objectives students in each section are struggling with. This may be helpful for programs that need to prepare for state testing.
Institutional Student Performance Export The Institutional Student Performance Export report, or ISPR, provides a general overview of how far students have progressed in their courses and how well they are performing.
Input Criteria
Your school will show as the default location. Check the box next to Sub-locations in the blue area.
Next to the School Year field, confirm that the current school year is displayed.
Leave both the Active and Course Category fields set to the “Any” option.
Select Generate Export and a link will appear to gain access to your report.
Select the link and you will be prompted to either open or save your report. The report will open to the Overview tab. Select the Data tab at the bottom to view the report.

Report Details
Columns A through J provide information to identify the student and course.
Table: ISPR Student and Course Identification Fields
Data Description
User ID The user’s unique identification number within Connexus.
First Name The student’s last name as entered in Connexus.
Last Name The student’s first name as entered in Connexus.
Location This field will display the name of your program.
Section ID The identification number assigned to a section of a course in Connexus.
Section Name This is the name of the course section as seen by the student.
Teacher The name of the teacher assigned to the section the student is enrolled in.
User Start The date the student was set to In Progress in the course. Often this will be
the same as the program start date. Students cannot submit course
assessments until they are In Progress.
User Finish The date the term ends for the student and by which coursework must be
completed.
Section Role Stage This shows where the student is in their progress through the course.
Enrolled will display before the course start date and then change to In
Progress as the student is working. They will move to Pending Complete
when they complete all the course material or when the section end date
arrives. A Complete status indicates the student has finished all work and the
teacher has reviewed it and marked their grade as final.

Columns K through Q will show how far along a student is in the course and their score.
Table: ISPR Progress Data Fields
Data Description
% Complete The percent of the course the student has completed.
Expected %
Complete
The percent of the course the student is expected to have completed based
on the start and end dates for the course.
Course Participation
Metric
If your program participates in Escalation, this is one metric that is provided.
The participation metric is the student’s rate of lesson completion based on
where a student should be by a given date.
Completion Status Based on the difference between the % Complete and Expected % Complete
fields, the status will indicate if a student is On Track, Behind, if there are
Serious Concerns
Overdue Lessons The number of lessons behind the student is based on lessons assigned on
their planner in Connexus.
Score This reflects the student’s overall grade for the course based on the
assessments the student has completed to that point.
Score Status This field will display one of a few options. Passing, In Danger of Failing,
Failing, or N/A. If the student has not completed any course work the field
will show as N/A.

Viewing Tips
The Institutional Student Performance Export has one row for each course a student is enrolled is and shows all students in your program. To make this report easier to view, you can sort or filter the student data. By default, the data is organized in alphabetical order by Section Name.
One way to view the data is to sort the students in alphabetical order by last name so that all of a student’s sections will appear together. To do this, select the Last Name column and choose Sort A to Z from the Sort & Filter menu in the Home Excel toolbar.
Alternatively, you may wish to view data for all students in a particular course. You can filter the Section Name column and select just those sections you wish to view. Select the cell titled Section Name and then select Filter from the Sort & Filter menu in the Home Excel toolbar.
Recommendations
Running this report at regular intervals during the term will help you keep track of which students are completing their lessons to finish their coursework on time and which students you may need to reach out to. It is best to intervene early on if students begin falling behind so that adjustments can be made to ensure their success.
Section Activity Report This report provides a detailed look at the work students are completing in their courses for a 7 day
period.
Input Criteria
Your school will show in the Location field.
The Students and Activeness in the section fields should be left to their default selections.
In the Start Date and End Date fields, use the calendar icons to select a range of days that does not exceed 7 days. The clock icons should be used if your program is not in the Eastern Standard Time Zone and you want to capture an exact range of dates.
Finally, select your program’s Time Zone using the drop-down menu.

Withdrawal Date The name of the teacher assigned to the section the student is enrolled in.
User Start The date the student was set to In Progress in the course. Often this will

Table: Access and Completion Fields in the Section Activity Report
Data Description
Lesson Access This field will show a date for each day in the specified period that a
student accessed a lesson in the specified course. The number in
parentheses shows how many “clicks” the student made within the
course.
Lesson Completion A date and time will show for each lesson the student marked as
complete within the 7 day period.
Assessment Completion A date and time will show for each assessment that was submitted
within the 7 day period.
Student Orientation
Complete
Displays if the student has completed the Student Orientation Course or
not.
Viewing Tips
The data is listed in alphabetical order by student name. All of a student’s enrolled courses will be listed together. If you only want to see information for one student at a time, you can filter by student name. Select the First Name column and open the Sort & Filter menu from the Home Excel toolbar. Select Filter from the drop-down menu and then select the student name you wish to focus on from the filter icon.
Another way to view the data is to focus on students that did not complete a lesson or did not complete an assessment in the 7 day period. This can be done by filtering the Lesson Completion or Assessment Completion columns to show blank entries. A blank entry indicates that a student did not complete the specified work.
Recommendations
Running the Section Activity Report regularly can help you identify students that may be falling behind. This report can be compared to the All Attendance Records report as a measure of student accountability. You can create a folder on your computer and save a copy of the report to this folder weekly for easy reference.

Section Log Entry Report The Section Log Entry Report displays the most recent log entry that was created as well as the total number of log entries that have been created for a particular student.
Input Criteria
There are several input fields, but most will be left to their default setting.
Leave all of the fields under the Report Filters heading at their default settings. (Your school should show as the location and the current school year should show by default.)
Under the Count Filters heading, leave the Log Entry System field set to the default of Any. Use the calendar icons to enter the Start Date and End Date to set the date range that you want to view log entry data for.
Select the appropriate Time Zone for your program using the drop-down menu.
Select Generate Export and a link will appear to gain access to your report.
Select the link and you will be prompted to either open or save your report. The report will open to the Overview tab. Select the Data tab at the bottom to view the report.

There are several columns that identify the section and course information that are used within the system.

Data Description
User ID The user’s unique identification number within Connexus.
Last Name The student’s last name as entered in Connexus.
First Name The student’s first name as entered in Connexus.
Grade Level The grade level the student is enrolled in.
Location This field will display the name of your program.
Section ID The identification number assigned to a section of a course in Connexus.
Section Name This is the name of the course section as seen by the student.
Section Teacher(s) The name of the teacher(s) assigned to the section the student is enrolled
in.
Course ID The identification number assigned to a course in Connexus.

Data Description
Course Display Name The name of the course as displayed to users.
Course Subject Area The curriculum area under which the course is categorized.
Course Subject The general curriculum area under which the course is categorized.
Count The number of log entries that have been created for the student in the
course.
Date of Most Recent
Contact
Displays the date and time of the last saved contact.
Contact Name The name of the Connexus user that created the most recent log entry.
Viewing Tips
There is one row of data for each course a student is enrolled in. The data is grouped so that all a student’s courses appear together. To view data for just one student at a time, you can filter the spreadsheet. Highlight the First Name column and open the Sort & Filter menu from the Home Excel toolbar. You can then use the filter menu for that column to select the student of focus.
Recommendations
This report can be helpful in making sure that students are staying in contact with their teachers.
Section with Courses Summary Report The Section with Courses Summary Report provides information about the lessons within a course and the student’s progress in completing those lessons.
Input Criteria
Your school will show as the default location. Check the box next to Sub-locations in the blue area.
Next to the School Year field, confirm that the current school year is displayed.

Leave the radio button for the Users field set to Only students. Leave the Active and Course Category fields to their default settings.
Select the middle radio button for the Results field that reads “Detailed – Return individual user information (include lesson, assessment and scoring data).”
Select Generate Export and a link will appear to gain access to your report.

Courses and Section Reports
Course ID The identification number assigned to a course in Connexus.
Base Course ID The identification number assigned to the original course from which
course was created.
Course Name The name of the course as it appears within the Connexus system. This
name is used for internal organizational purposes.
Course Display Name The name of the course as displayed to users in the Course Placement Tool.
Grading Effort This field displays a value for the level of effort required of the teacher to
grade assessments within the course.
Teaching Effort This field displays a value for the level of effort required of the teacher to
engage and teach students in the course.
Overall Effort This is the combined value for the Grading and Teaching Effort columns.
Columns K through R display the identification information for the student and their status in the course.

Section Role How the user participates in the course. Students have the Student
section role in their courses.
Section Role Stage This shows where the student is in their progress through the course.
Enrolled will display before the course start date and then change to In
Progress as the student is working. They will move to Pending Complete
when they complete all the course material or when the section end date
arrives. A Complete status indicates the student has finished all work and
the teacher has reviewed it and marked their grade as final.
Columns S through AB show the completion information for the student.

Data Description
Forced? Describes if the student must take assessments in order to progress
through the course. The field will display Yes or No.
High School Credit? Tells whether or not the course is eligible for high school credit towards
graduation.
# Lessons Total number of lessons in the course.
#Skipped Lessons The number of lessons that have been skipped for the student in the
course.
#Completed Lessons Total number of lessons the student has marked complete for the
course.
Course Assessment The total number of points assigned to the assessments in a course.

Dropped Assessment
Points
The total number of assessment points that were dropped as a result of
skipping a lesson or dropping an assessment.
Student Attempted
Assessment Points
The total number of points the student could have earned based on the
assessments completed so far in the course.
Assigned Assessment
Points
The total number of points assigned in the grade book for correct
assessment items.
Score This reflects the student’s overall grade for the course based on the
assessments the student has completed to that point.
Viewing Tips
Data in this report is organized in alphabetical order by the Section Name. To see all courses for a
single student, you can filter the spreadsheet. Highlight the First Name column and open the Sort &
Filter menu from the Home Excel toolbar. You can then use the filter menu for that column to select
the student of focus.
Section with Details by Grade Book Weight Type Report The Section with Details by Grade Book Weight Type report allows you to view how all students are
progressing on certain assessment types in one report.
Input Criteria
Your school will show as the default location. Check the box next to Sub-locations in the blue area.
Next to the School Year field, confirm that the current school year is displayed.
Leave the Users, Active and Course Category fields set to the default options.

Select Generate Export and a link will appear to gain access to your report.
Select the link and you will be prompted to either open or save your report. The report will open to the Overview tab. Select the Data tab at the bottom to view the report.

Section Name This is the name of the course section as seen by the student.

Columns M – Z display the completion percentage for the types of assessments listed in the grade book. There are 2 entries for each assessment type. The first set is for the first half of the course and the second entries are for the second half of the course.
It is important to cross reference these assessment types with the student’s grade book as not all courses use every assessment type. For example, if the course does not use Skills Checks, this column will show 0%.

Skills Check Completion1 The percentage of skills checks the student has completed out of
the total number for the first half of the course.
Portfolio Completion 1 The percentage of portfolio assignments the student has
completed out of the total number for the first half of the course.
Quick Check Completion 1 The percentage of quick checks the student has completed out of
the total number for the first half of the course.
Discussion Completion 1 The percentage of discussion assignments the student has
completed out of the total number for the first half of the course.
Score 1 The student’s average score on the first half of their assignments.
Test Completion 2 – Score 2 The columns are repeated to show the percentage of each
assessment type completed for the second half of the course.
The final three columns, AA through AC provide additional information about the student.
