The Caribbean Region is composed by a continentalplain named Caribbean Coast and the waters and
insular Colombian territories in the Caribbean sea as
San Andres and Decision. The plain is located to the
north of the Andes and ends in the Sierra Nevada ofHoly Martha to give step to the peninsula of the Guajira.
The region is dominated by the delta of the river
Magdalena and possesses a littoral not very injured from
Urab's gulf in direction suroccidente - nororiente.
Nevertheless, in her we find the major heights of the
Colombian territory in the Sierra Nevada of Santa
Martha (beaks Colon and Bolivar)

Due to the diversity of the climate of the region there is very big thevariety of animal and vegetable species that in her we find. Many of
these species they are in route of extinction (as the sea-cows and
the guartinaja). Between the most predominant animals we find the
tigrillo, the monkey titi, the guacamaya and several species of
serpents. It is necessary to emphasize that also in the rivers we findspecies as the bocachico and the cayman.
The flora of the region is very exotic, the only species exist as the
swamp that in the region one finds in big quantities. In the high
plateaus of the Sierra Nevada they are also frailejones; the sawpossesses variety of climates. In the seas and especially in the
Islands of Our Lady of the Rosario near Cartagena they find big
reefs of coral.
