V. Course End Competencies A. Listening (aural) Skills

1. Recognize, identify and manipulate modal melodies and harmonies 2. Recognize, identify and manipulate harmonies in progression using 20th Century

chromaticism and modulation. B. Performance Skills

1. Sing chromatic melodies using movable-do solfege in various clefs. 2. Sing diatonic modulating melodies using movable-do solfege. 3. Sing non-tonal melodies using fixed-do solfege. 4. Transcribe tonal and non-tonal harmonic and melodic music examples

from hearing VI. Classroom Policies/Procedures

A. General Information Sheet: see attached B. Withdrawal: A student who does not withdraw officially from a course may receive a grade of “F,” depending on course progress or course attendance, which will become a part of the student’s permanent record. The official withdrawal date is listed in the General Information Sheet. C. Final Exam Schedule: see attached D. Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend regularly for the full class period. In accordance with this expectation, each student will receive an attendance grade proportionate to the number of classes missed. There will be no excused absences. Tardies will also be recorded and will count as one-fourth of an absence. E. Cheating/Plagiarism Policy: Any student found cheating or plagiarizing at any time during the course will receive an ”F” for the assignment/exam and, as direct result, may fail the course. F. Conduct: Each student is responsible for adhering to the Code of Student Conduct as

stated in the college catalog. G. Communication Devices: Faculty, staff, students and college visitors may not use and must silence cell phones, pagers, and other communication devices in all

instructional areas which include: all labs and classrooms during instructional sessions, the Learning Resources Center/Library, the Assessment Services Center (B101), and other areas so designated by the college. Failure to turn off cell phones in this classroom may result in the phone being confiscated.

VII. Evaluation Criteria

A. Nature of all Graded Criteria: 1. Each student will receive an attendance grade according to the following scale: 0-2=A; 3-4=B; 5-6=C; 7-8=D; 9 or more=F.

2. There will be weekly homework. 3. There will be two unit exams incorporating skills learned throughout the semester. 4. The final exam will be a two-hour comprehensive examination integrating material from the entire course.

B. Weight of Each Criterion: One’s final grade in the course will result from an averaging of the scores from the attendance, homework assignments, unit exams, and final exam.

Attendance 25% of grade Average of homework assignments 25% of grade Average of three unit exam scores 25% of grade Final exam score 25% of grade 100% Total

The grading scale to be used for all exams and for the overall course grade averaging is as follows:

90% - 100% = A 80% - 89% = B 70% - 79% = C 60% - 69% = D 0% - 59% = F

C. Late Assignments/Exams: 1. Late assignments will lose one grade level for each scheduled class period

beyond the due date. 2. Make-up exams will be scheduled on an individual basis and 10 full

percentage points will be deducted from the final score. 3. Extra credit will be available in the form of a concert review. A set of

procedures for the concert review will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
