About LIFESince March 1990, under the sponsorship of Rowan College at Burlington County, LIFE has offered its membership, aged 50+, the opportunity to pursue informal educational goals through a broad range of classes taught by volunteer instructors. LIFE is self-governing with a volunteer Advisory Council elected by its membership; the current President is Mark Spector.

Interested in Teaching? We are always looking to expand our course offerings and hope to find volunteer facilitators/instructors who will be willing to conduct classes in the evenings, on the weekends or during the day. To propose your class, please contact the LIFE office. Assistance may be available in course preparation, lesson planning and gathering of materials by experienced instructors. Contact LIFE at (856) 222-9311, ext. 1499, or via email at [email protected] for more information.

Interested in Trips? Each semester LIFE offers a number of day trips conducted by members and/or instructors. Members will be notified of new trips as they are added to the schedule throughout the year. Members who wish to organize a day trip should contact LIFE.

About LIFE MembershipA LIFE membership entitles members to take as many classes a year as they choose and can reasonably handle. Members receive The LIFE Gazette, the newsletter and announcements of upcoming events. LIFE is a volunteer organization and requests member participation in the operation of the organization, in addition to attending classes. Members may become an instructor, provide office assistance, serve as a committee member or offer time and expertise as they choose.

A Positive Learning EnvironmentMany LIFE classes are designed to engage participants in active, spirited, give-and-take discussions facilitated by LIFE instructors. Their goal is to conduct such discussions in a spirit of mutual respect for the opinions of both the instructor and other class members in order to maintain a positive learning environment. Should a participant find certain material or discussion objectionable, s/he is encouraged to contact the instructor privately to express any concerns. The instructor appreciates well-intentioned feedback since it helps support LIFE’s goal for creating an atmosphere appropriate for both teaching and learning through its classes.

Class Cancellation and Class SizeIf a class is canceled by the instructor, class members will be notified by phone or email. The instructor may cancel a class even if the college is open. If RCBC is closed due to weather or other emergencies, no classes will be held on the college campuses, and class members will be called by the RCBC emergency system. College closings will be posted to the college website, rcbc.edu. Make–up sessions for canceled classes will be at the instructor’s discretion. The size of a class is typically determined by the instructor and/or the Fire Commissioner. When an over-enrollment occurs, applicants will be waitlisted and contacted if an opening occurs. At the instructor’s discretion, a class may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
