Students will participate in reviewing a typical coating specification, calculation of areas and establishing the required quantities for each coating system.

A review of pre-surface preparation will be conducted and the student will learn about pre-surface preparation techniques prior to conducting methods of surface preparation such as abrasive blast cleaning ie weld spatter, sharp edges, laminations, shelling, surface contamination etc.

A comprehensive review of visual standards will be covered in the workshop. Visual standards from SSPC, NACE and ISO will be discussed and demonstrated to ensure the student is familiar with the visual standards used in the coatings industry.

The second half of the workshop will consist of inspection equipment used in the coatings industry being demonstrated with practical exercises conducted in group and single use.

Inspection equipment will be available for: ambient conditions, surface profile, wet and dry film thickness, holiday detection, assessment of dust, soluble salt contamination and adhesion testing.
